時は享保。江戸は将軍吉宗の時代。
神田須田町に住む料理人の惣八は、その時々で方々の大名屋敷や料亭に出入りをしていた。
ホトトギスが鳴く時分、今年も例年通り尾張藩中屋敷で梅の仕込みをしていた惣八は、ふと、今年の梅の異常に気付く……。

江戸を舞台とした小さなミステリーがいま、始まる。
