その日は、時間が少しだけずれていた。
目が覚めたとき、時計は九時を過ぎていた。
9時01分ではない。
9時12分。
それだけで、何かが外れたように感じる。
いつもの位置ではない。
ほんの少しの違い。
だが、それは確かに“いつもではない”。
晃は、少しの間そのまま天井を見ていた。
焦る感覚はない。
ただ、空白が広がる。
あの時間に起きていない。
それを取り戻そうとは思わない。
ただ、今日は違う、と理解する。
顔を洗う。
水が冷たい。
昨日より少しだけ低い温度。
その違いを、はっきりと感じる。
タオルで顔を拭く。
繊維のざらつき。
妙に鮮明だった。
外に出る。
空は晴れている。
昨日までの湿り気が抜けて、透明度が高い。
空気が軽い。
だがその軽さが、逆に落ち着かない。
足は自然には動かない。
方向を選ぶ必要がある。
しばらく立ち止まってから、
晃は、あえて反対方向へ歩いた。
店とは逆。
駅ではなく、住宅街の方へ。
理由はない。
ただ、今日は違うことをする日だと、どこかで決めていた。
歩く。
舗装の乾いた感触。
靴底が軽い。
子どもの声が遠くで聞こえる。
――キャッ、キャッ。
規則性のない笑い声。
それが、不思議と落ち着く。
完全でない音。
揃っていないもの。
それでも、成立している。
そこでふと、立ち止まる。
公園だった。
小さなベンチ。
砂場。
影の位置が、少しだけ傾いている。
午前の光。
ベンチに座る。
木の感触。
乾いていて、少しだけ温かい。
手を置く。
指先で表面をなぞる。
そのとき。
ほんの一瞬だけ。
別の感触が重なる。
柔らかい。
温度がある。
しかし、そこには何もない。
遅れて、現実が戻る。
木の冷たさだけが残る。
晃は、手を見つめた。
――今のは。
思考は止まる。
追わない。
だが、消えない。
確かに、何かに触れた。
一方で。
梓は、店の前にいた。
扉には触れない。
今日は違う。
そう決めていた。
それでも、ここに来ている。
「……いないよね」
小さく呟く。
中を見る。
昨日と同じ光。
だがそこに“揃う場所”はない。
そのまま、背を向ける。
歩き出す。
最初の数歩は、少し遅い。
それから、リズムを整える。
通りを抜ける。
風が抜ける。
温度は低くない。
それでも、空気の密度が違う。
しばらく歩いて、
ふと、足を止める。
理由はない。
ただ、その場所だった。
小さな公園。
誰かがいる気配がする。
ベンチを見る。
誰もいない。
それなのに。
確かに、そこに何かがある。
近づく。
指を伸ばす。
ベンチの同じ位置に触れる。
その瞬間。
温度。
確かに、そこにある。
自分のものではない、もう一つの温度。
同時に。
晃も、同じ場所に手を置いていた。
時間は違う。
場所も、ほんの数分ズレている。
それでも。
触れている。
晃の視界が、わずかにブレる。
目の前に、誰かの影が重なる。
振り向く。
誰もいない。
梓も同じだった。
隣を、見る。
空白。
だが。
確かに、そこに“誰かの余白”がある。
手が、そのまま止まる。
離さない。
触れているわけではない。
だが、離れてもいない。
理解する。
これは、物理じゃない。
記憶でもない
――残っている。
それだけ。
それで、十分だった。
晃は、ゆっくりと手を離す。
梓も、同じように離していた。
完全に同時ではない。
だが、そのズレは、もう意味を持たない。
それぞれ、違う道を歩き出す。
だが。
どこかで、また重なることを知っている。
確信ではない。
予測でもない。
ただ。
そうなる。
それだけだった。

That morning,
time had slipped—just slightly.
When he woke,
the clock had already passed nine.
Not 9:01.
9:12.
And that alone
felt like something had come undone.
Not where it usually was.
Only a small difference.
And yet—
it was no longer what it had been.
Akira lay still for a while,
staring at the ceiling.
There was no urgency.
Only—
a widening blankness.
He had not woken at that time.
And he didn’t try
to restore it.
Today
was different.
That was enough.
He washed his face.
The water was cold.
Only slightly colder than yesterday.
But the difference
was exact.
He dried his face.
The texture of the towel—
rough,
clear,
almost too vivid.
He stepped outside.
The sky was clear.
Yesterday’s moisture
had lifted completely.
The air was light.
And that lightness—
felt unsettled.
His steps didn’t fall into place.
Direction
had to be chosen.
After standing there for a while,
he turned—
deliberately
in the opposite direction.
Away from the café.
Not toward the station—
but into the residential streets.
There was no reason.
Only a quiet decision—
that today
was meant to be different.
He walked.
The feel of dry pavement
under his shoes.
Light.
Children’s voices echoed somewhere far off.
—bright laughter,
unpatterned,
scattered.
Irregular.
And yet—
somehow steady.
Something doesn’t have to align
to remain.
He stopped.
A park.
A small bench.
A sandbox.
Morning light angled just slightly,
casting a tilted shadow.
He sat.
Wood beneath him—
dry,
faintly warm.
He placed his hand
on its surface.
Ran his fingers across it.
And then—
For the briefest moment—
another sensation overlapped.
Soft.
Warm.
There was nothing there.
And yet—
something had been touched.
Then, as if delayed—
reality returned.
Only the dryness
of wood remained.
Akira looked at his hand.
…That was—
Thought stopped.
He didn’t follow it.
And still—
it didn’t disappear.
He had touched something.
That was certain.
Elsewhere—
Azusa stood
in front of the café.
She didn’t reach for the door.
Today
was supposed to be different.
And yet—
she had come here.
“…You’re not here, right?”
She murmured softly.
She looked inside.
The same light as yesterday.
But—
no place
where things aligned.
She turned away.
Started walking.
The first few steps
were slow.
Then her rhythm adjusted.
She crossed the street.
Wind moved through the air.
The temperature wasn’t cold.
And still—
the density felt different.
She walked.
And then—
stopped.
No reason.
It was simply—
that place.
A small park.
The sense
of someone being there.
She looked toward the bench.
No one.
And yet—
something was there.
She stepped closer.
Reached out her hand.
Touched the same spot
on the bench.
And in that instant—
warmth.
Clear.
Another temperature—
not her own.
At the same time—
Akira’s hand rested
on that place.
Not in the same moment.
Not in the same exact position.
But—
close enough
to overlap.
They were touching.
Akira’s vision
wavered.
For a moment—
a shape overlapped
with the space before him.
He turned.
No one.
Azusa did the same.
She looked beside her.
Empty.
And still—
there was a presence
of someone
in that absence.
Their hands remained still.
Not holding.
Not connected.
But—
not separate.
Then—
understanding.
This wasn’t physical.
Not memory either.
—
Something remained.
That was all.
And it was enough.
Akira slowly withdrew his hand.
Azusa did the same.
Not perfectly in sync.
But—
the difference
no longer mattered.
They walked away.
In different directions.
And yet—
somewhere,
they knew
they would cross again.
Not as certainty.
Not as prediction.
Just—
that it would happen.
That was all.
