Day Two of Being an Adventurer

After a good nights sleep I wake up fully energies from everything that happened yesterday. Getting blasted by a random girl definitely through me for a loop but everything else after went pretty smoothly. Raiden and Pebble are still soundly resting in their card forms. Even when in card form it I can tell just from looking at the picture on the card how relax the two are. I release Raiden from his card form and he appears half awake.

“Aaaaaaaa… Good morning master. You’re looking well rested.” (Raiden)

“And you look like you’re about to fall over. You okay?” (Arin)

“No need to worry. All I need is a splash of water and food in my belly and I’ll be good to go. (Raiden)

When we finally found a place to eat the other night Raiden didn’t hold back. He ate so much food we ended up with a small dent in the bounty money we just received. Raiden ate and drank till he past out. Which left me dragging him up to the room we were staying in. I couldn’t even turn him into a card with everyone else watching.

“Get yourself ready for the day. We’re going straight to the guild for our first job.” (Arin)

“You don’t need to be in such a hurry master. There’ll be more then enough guild request by the time we arrive.” (Raiden)

I don’t know if it was by some weird fate but by the time we had arrived back at the guild there were no more quest available. The guild normally had a wall covered with posters with different jobs listed on them, but right in front of us now was a black wall with not a single job remaining. I almost felt like crying. Here I was starting my first day as a real adventurer and I can’t even find a job available. I walked up to the receptionist that helped me the other day to see what was going on.

“I’m terribly sorry but most adventurers come in early to get a hold of new job request. I probably should have told you the other day.” (Guild Receptionist)

“No I get it. I’m just mad at myself a bit. So what can I do now?” (Arin)

“Well there is this one job we have available, but because of the criteria for it the guild has been hesitant on posting it.” (Guild Receptionist)

“Really? What kind of job is it?” (Arin)

“It’s a body guarding job for The Giants Hammer smithy. They need someone to protect them from monsters as they go to the mines to dig up rare ores.” (Guild Receptionist)

“That seems pretty simple. Why doesn’t the guild but this up on the job board? (Arin)

“It’s because the person that made the job request refuses to let anyone accept it unless he approves of them. And because of how picky the client is no one has been allowed to do it so far.” (Guild Receptionist)

“So even if we try and do the job there’s no guaranty that we’ll actually do it?” (Arin)

“Yes I’m sorry for the inconvenience.” (Guild Receptionist)

For some reason the name of the smithy sounded familiar. Where have I heard it before? Thinking about it I remember the reason I came to this town. My fathers blacksmithing master was living in this town. What was the name of his shop again.

“AAAAAAAAAAHHH Wait a minute! I know that place.” (Arin)

The Giants Hammer was the shop fathers master owned. This was perfect. I was going to go there eventually to meet him and now I can get my first job from him. Two birds with one stone.

“Alright I think I’ll take that request. What do I have to do first?” (Arin)

“If you plan to take the job you first have to meet the client. If you’ll give me a moment I will get you the address and directions to his shop.” (Guild Receptionist)

After I had gotten everything I needed from the receptionist me and Raiden made our way to The Giants Hammer smithy. The way there from the guild took us down twisted and narrow roads. Without the help we got from the guild we might have gotten lost.

“So how hard do you think this job is going to be master? Considering all the hype there is I’m starting to wonder the reason why no one was given the job before.” (Raiden)

“How would I know. Maybe the guys before were just to weak to do the job.” (Arin)

“But if that was the case do you think new adventurers like us would even get a chance to do this? There might be something more to this job then just strength.” (Raiden)

Raiden was making a good point. There have probably been many more people before us that were denied for the job. But unlike them I had my connection through my father so maybe things could turn out differently. Even though Raiden and I were newbies we were considerably strong after everything we’ve encountered so far.

With that on our minds we had finally made it to the entrance of The Giants Hammer smithy. The building looked like a big dome with three metal chimneys protruding from multiple sides of it. The smoke coming out of them were very eye catching. The front door at the entrance were large steel doors that were difficult to open. Raiden had no trouble with them however, and with that we entered the smithy.

“Hello, is anyone here? We came from the adventurers guild to accept the request.” (Arin)

Out from the back of the smithy appeared a large man roughly 6.2 ft tall. From his looks he appeared to be a dwarf, a very big one at that. Dwarfs were notorious for being some of the best blacksmiths in the world but they were usually around 3 ft tall. This dwarf was double that giving him a very intimidating vibe.

“So you’re the ones that adventures guild sent this time eh?” (Dwarf Blacksmith)

He looked us over with a serious look in his eyes. It was a little hard to move from the seer pressure.

“This beastman might be alright but you look really weak kid. Give it up.” (Dwarf Blacksmith)

“I’m stronger then I look. Also this is unrelated but I have a message from my father for you.” (Arin)

“You do eh? What’s your fathers name?” (Dwarf Blacksmith)

“His name is Ludo. He told me you taught him everything about blacksmithing.” (Arin)

“You’re Ludo’s boy? Why didn’t you say so sooner. Its good to finally meet you. The name is Brewster. I’ve been meaning to meet you before but my work here has made it hard to travel.” (Brewster)

“No worries I totally understand.” (Arin)

His demeanor did a complete 180 with him now becoming very welcoming. I almost got whiplash from the sudden turn.

“So I’m not trying to be rude but I was hoping you would still consider letting us take up your request with the guild.” (Arin)

“We are more then capable with handling any small fry that comes our way. You won’t be disappointed.” (Raiden)

“Hmmm… I don’t know. Even though your my disciple’s son I’m not sure about letting you take this job.” (Brewster)

“If it’s about strength we can show we are more then capable.” (Arin)

“It’s not that but you see the thing is I’m more worried about how you deal with the person you’re guarding then I am the monsters.” (Brewster)

“Are we not guarding you for the job?” (Raiden)

“Actually the person I want guarded is my daughter. But I’m still unsure about this arrangement.” (Brewster)

Suddenly a large noise is made in the back of the shop. The sound of metal can be heard falling off the walls. The three of us rushed over to see what the cause of the noise was. To my surprise the girl that crashed into me before at the guild was right in front of me, after falling on the ground with multiple weapons laid about.

“Ouch, why isn’t this stuff less heavy. Eh…. What the! You’re the zombie from the other day!” (Young Girl)

“I’m not a zombie damn it!” (Arin)

“Sir Brewster is this girl by any chance?” (Raiden)

“Yup, she’s my only daughter Liza. She’s the person I want guarded in the mines.” (Brewster)

To think that the same person that crashed into me at the guild was also the daughter of my father’s master. Not only that but it was her that we needed to guard in our first request from the adventurers guild. How did things work out for this to happen? For some reason I feel like my first request as an adventurer was going to be a whole lot more trouble then I thought it would be.
