The Road to Yarrin
With no carriages going in or out of the village we decided to walk on our way to the town of Yarrin. It normally would take two days by carriage but on foot we would arrive in a week at the earliest. This didn’t deter us however. Thanks to that we could enjoy more of the journey as we made our way. Pebble was comfortable riding on top of my shoulder as usual, and Raiden seemed to have an endless amount of energy.
“So master what kinds of monsters are near Yarrin? All the weaklings back home didn’t even give me a challenge.” (Raiden)
“I think that had more to do with you being much stronger than anything else. It would usually take large groups of people to accomplish your kinds of feats. Although I did hear that humanoid monsters like goblins and ogre were trying to make abandoned mines into their nest, so we might see more of those when we get there.” (Arin)
“Fighting an ogre might be fun but is there anything stronger you know of?” (Raiden)
“I’ve never been so everything I know is from my father.” (Arin)
“Maybe we’ll be lucky and find a cyclops, or even a salamander.” (Raiden)
“More like if we’re unlucky.” (Arin)
The sun was getting close to setting on our first day of travel. It seemed like the best time to set up camp for the night and press on tomorrow morning. Pebble used his earth magic to make us a large hut to sleep in while I started prepping for dinner. We had some leftover rabbit meat so I skewered a couple of them and roasted over a fire we had just made up. When the meat was fully cooked Raiden and I started stuffing our faces.
The meat was nice and tender with a slight gamey after taste. Raiden seemed to be enjoying it. By the time I had noticed it he had multiple meat skewers he was devouring.
Although Pebble doesn’t need to eat sometimes I see him with a small rock that he’ll hold almost like he’s hugging it. I didn’t pay it much mind before but now for some reason I notice when he does that the rocks will disappear. I wonder what Pebble does with those rock. Although it didn’t really matter what he did with them.
That first night was spent very peacefully, with use enjoying our meal until we passed out for the night.
The next morning we all got up right as the sun had just risen. Pebble used his earth magic to turn our campsite back to the way it was before we arrived. It’s best to leave a place the way you found it as the saying goes. The second day of our journey was pretty boring though. Not much difference from the other day. The road was starting to look more unkept as we made our way. Before we advanced further Raiden seemed to notice something.
“Hold up a second there master. Something’s not right.” (Raiden)
“Are there monsters up ahead?” (Arin)
“No not a monster, but it exuding a lot of killing intent.” (Raiden)
I decided to use my [Character Appraisal] skill in the direction Raiden was talking about.
Bandits were waiting up ahead to ambush travelers like use. Thanks to my skill I could determine how many there were. Four bandits, including the leader, were hiding among the bushes and three more were up hiding in trees. Only their leader was labeled as a rank four while all the other bandits seemed to be a mix of rank two and three. The bandits leader caught most of my attention.

- This bandit leader tends to rely on gorilla tactics when it comes to robbing and killing. Due to his arrogance he tends to overestimate his own abilities. He relies on his allies to deal most damage to his enemies where as he prefers to make the finishing blow.
His abilities made him stronger then the average person. Luckily for us they were still no match for our combined abilities. Even though I was confident this would be the first time I have ever fought another human. The only way we would survive this ordeal would be to kill them all. I had fought and killed multiple monsters but the thought of killing another human being shook me a little bit.
“Master, a word of advice. These men are no different from the creatures you’ve faced. The only thing that makes them different is that they are smarter then the average monster, which makes them more dangerous. If you hesitate that will be the end. If you can’t stomach that then leave these scum to me.” (Raiden)
Raiden was right. No matter what they were in the end it’s kill or be killed in this life.
“It’s okay Raiden. I can handle this. Thanks.” (Arin)
The bandits thought they had the upper hand but now they would fall prey to to us.
The bandit leader was lying in wait to ambush wondering travelers. He out of everyone of his subordinates was the most excited to kill.
“Hey boss those guys up ahead seem like they got a lot of good stuff on them. Especially that beastman.” (Bandit 1)
“Yeah. Once they get a bit closer I want you all to go up from behind to stop them from running. This is going to be a good haul.” (Bradick)
As the bandit leader was talking suddenly one of the bandits hiding in the trees fell down right beside him. Protruding from his chest was a large stone spike that had pierced him all the way through his upper torso. The bandit leaders eyes darkened at the sight of dead bandit. Before he could react suddenly the other bandits hiding in the trees were shot with stone spikes and fell to the ground as lifeless bodies.
“We’re under attack!” (Bradick)
The bandit leader cried out and his remaining men came out from the bushes with their weapons in hand.
Raiden, Pebble and I walked up nonchalantly to where we were face to face with the four remaining bandits.
“Master the armor and weapons on these hoodlums seem somewhat decent. We may be able to get some use out of it.” (Raiden)
“Raiden, make sure you don’t mess up there bodies to much. If we bring their heads to the adventurers guild we might be able to get a bounty out of it too.” (Arin)
“As always master, you think of everything don’t you.” (Raiden)
“What the hell did you just say. You think you’re getting out of this alive after what you did to my boys!” (Bradick)
The bandit leader was furious. His head lighting up red with anger at my words.
“Don’t think we’re just your average travelers. I plan on getting my moneys worth dealing with you.” (Arin)
“Haha, just what I would expect from my master.” (Raiden)
The bandit’s faces went from angry to scared. I could tell from the looks on their faces that they were regretting messing with us. They would soon realize how foolish it was to try and mess with us.
