第9話 お菓子の雨で大パニック！（The Candy Rain Panic!）
それは科学も魔法もある、こことは別の世界。
This is a world where both science and magic exist, a world different from ours.
今日の魔法学校の授業は、みんなが自分の好きな魔法を覚える授業です。
Today's class at the magic school is for everyone to learn their favorite magic.
アイビーは「水の中で息ができる魔法」を使って、池の中の魚や亀と楽しそうにお話ししています。
Ivy used "magic to breathe underwater" and was happily talking with the fish and turtles in the pond.
ガスは「物の大きさを変える魔法」を使って、自分の体より大きなチョコレートチップクッキーにモグモグと齧りついていました。
Gus used "magic to change the size of things" and was munching on a chocolate chip cookie bigger than his own body.
ジャックスは「透明人間になる魔法」を使って、先生にペンキをかけるいたずらをしようとしています。
Jax was trying to pull a prank by pouring paint on the teacher using "magic to become invisible."
しかし、服が透明になっていなかったのであっさりと見つかり、先生の風の魔法で吹き飛ばされて、自分がペンキを被って透明ではなくなりました。
However, because his clothes weren't invisible, he was easily spotted, blown away by the teacher's wind magic, and ended up covered in paint himself, no longer invisible at all.
みんな自分のやりたいことを見つけて楽しそうにしています。
Everyone had found what they wanted to do and looked like they were having fun.
ドットがどんな魔法を勉強しようか悩んでいると、今日も授業のお手伝いとして来ていた上級生のアリスが言いました。
While Dot was wondering what magic to study, Alice, the upperclassman who was there as a teaching assistant again today, spoke up.
「オーホッホ！ 上級生になれば、こんな魔法も使えるのよ」
"Ohoho! When you become an upperclassman, you can use magic like this."
アリスは自慢げに「天気を変える魔法」を使い、少しだけ雨を降らせてからすぐに晴れに戻し、空に綺麗な虹をかけました。
Alice proudly used "magic to change the weather," making it rain just a little bit before quickly changing it back to sunny, creating a beautiful rainbow in the sky.
「わあ、すごい！」ドットは感心しましたが、ふと思いついて言います。
"Wow, amazing!" Dot was impressed, but then she had an idea and said,
「でも、雨じゃなくてお菓子が降ってきたら、もっと楽しいのになぁ！」
"But it would be much more fun if candy fell from the sky instead of rain!"
「そんな魔法、あるわけないでしょう」とアリスはあきれ顔です。
"There's no such magic, of course," Alice said with an exasperated look.
「やってみなくちゃ分からないよ！ 魔法まぜまぜ、お菓子の雨よ降れ！ エイッ！」
"You won't know until you try! Magic Mix, Rain of Candy! Yah!"
ドットが呪文を唱えて上を見上げましたが、何かが降ってくる気配はありません。
Dot cast the spell and looked up, but there was no sign of anything falling.
しかしその時、何故かどこからともなく、クリームたっぷりのパイが横からビュン！ と飛んできました。
But then, for some reason, out of nowhere, a pie full of cream flew in from the side with a whoosh!
ベチャッ！
Splat!
パイはドットや、周りにいたアリスたちの顔に張り付きます。
The pie stuck right to the faces of Dot, Alice, and the others around them.
「キャーッ！ 私の美しい顔が！」アリスは顔を汚されてカンカンに怒りました。
"Kyaa! My beautiful face!" Alice was furious that her face was dirtied.
その横で、ガスは「これ、美味しいパイだね」と言いながら、顔についたクリームを指ですくってペロペロ舐めています。
Beside her, Gus was scooping the cream off his face with his finger and licking it up, saying, "This is a delicious pie."
そして、クリームだらけの顔で静かに怒っている先生が、ドットに言いました。
And the teacher, quietly angry with a cream-covered face, said to Dot,
「ドット。もっと簡単な魔法でいいので、次までの宿題にします。家で練習してきなさい」
"Dot. Even a simpler spell is fine, so I'm making this your homework for next time. Practice at home."
「はーい……」
"Okay..."
いつものように家に帰ったドットは、博士に相談しました。
Going home as usual, Dot consulted Doc.
「ハハハ！ 魔法でお菓子が降らないなら、これを使えばいい！ 最新発明『お天気スイーツメーカー』だ！」
"Ha ha ha! If magic won't make candy rain, just use this! My latest invention: The Weather Sweets Maker!"
博士が取り出したのは、お菓子が降ってくる雲を作る装置でした。
What Doc took out was a device that made clouds rain down candies and other sweets.
「砂糖やチョコレート、小麦粉とか色々なお菓子の材料を入れて、横のハンドルをグルグル回すんだ。するとモクモクと雲が出て空に浮かび、色々なお菓子を降らせてくれるぞ！」
"You put in sweets ingredients like sugar, chocolate, and flour, and turn the handle on the side round and round. Then, fluffy clouds will come out, float into the sky, and rain down all sorts of sweets!"
「わあ、すごい！ 博士、ありがとう！」
"Wow, amazing! Thank you, Doc!"
ドットは大喜びして、さっそく街に出かけると、装置のハンドルをグルグルと回します。
Dot was overjoyed, immediately went out to the town, and turned the device's handle round and round.
すると空から、飴玉やチョコレート、クッキーやカップケーキがパラパラと降ってきました！
Then, from the sky, candies, chocolates, cookies, and cupcakes came sprinkling down!
これには街の人たちもビックリ仰天。
The townspeople were absolutely astonished by this.
子供たちが疑うことなく大喜びで美味しそうに食べるのを見て、大人たちも食べてみると……。
Seeing the children happily and deliciously eating them without a doubt, the adults tried eating them too, and…
「美味しい！」本当にほっぺたが落ちるほど美味しいお菓子で、みんな思わず笑顔になってしまいます。
"Delicious!" They were so delicious that their cheeks almost fell off, and everyone couldn't help but smile.
「材料を入れるだけで、お菓子の雨を降らせることができるんだよ！」
"Just by putting in the ingredients, I can make it rain sweets!"
ドットが周りの大人たちに自慢すると、大人たちは「この材料も使ってみて！」とたくさんのプレゼントをくれました。
When Dot boasted to the adults around her, they gave her many presents, saying, "Try using these ingredients too!"
ドットが材料を入れるたびに、新しいお菓子が空から降ってきて、街は大盛り上がりです。
Every time Dot put in ingredients, new sweets fell from the sky, and the town was in a state of great excitement.
しかし、そんな時。
However, right at that moment.
ピューッ！ と風に吹かれて飛んできた鳥の羽が一枚、ヒラヒラと装置の中に入ってしまいました。
Whoosh! A single bird feather blown by the wind fluttered right into the device.
ドットがそれに気づかずにハンドルを回し続けると……。
As Dot continued to turn the handle without noticing it…
ポンッ！ という音と共に、今までとは違う真っ黒な雲がモクモクと立ち昇りました。
With a "Pop!" sound, a pitch-black cloud, different from before, billowed up.
そしてその中から、飴やチョコレート、クッキーで出来た「お菓子の小鳥」が大量に飛び出してきたのです！
And from inside it, a massive flock of "candy birds" made of candy, chocolate, and cookies flew out!
「ちゅんちゅん！」
"Chirp chirp!"
お菓子の小鳥たちは、街の人に食べられるどころか、逆に街の人たちが持っているお菓子をバクッ！ と食べて飛び去ってしまいます。
Far from being eaten by the townspeople, the candy birds snatched and gobbled up the sweets the townspeople were holding with a "Chomp!" and flew away.
それだけではありません。テラスで軽食を楽しんでいる人のテーブルからサンドイッチを持っていってしまったり……。
That wasn't all. They took sandwiches from the tables of people enjoying a light meal on the terrace…
レストランで大きな口を開けてランチを食べようとしている人から、ステーキを奪い取ってしまったり！
And they even snatched a steak right from someone who was opening their mouth wide to eat lunch at a restaurant!
「こら！ 私のランチが！」「どうしてくれるんだ！」
"Hey! My lunch!" "What are you going to do about this!"
街の人たちから怒られたドットは、大慌てで学校に逃げ込み、友達に助けを求めました。
Scolded by the townspeople, Dot hurriedly ran into the school and asked her friends for help.
事情を聞いたアイビーは、本物の小鳥たちにお願いして、お菓子の小鳥たちを足止めしてくれました。
Hearing the situation, Ivy asked the real birds to stall the candy birds.
ガスは物の大きさを変える魔法で、小鳥が飛んでいく先の看板をドーン！ と大きくして、ぶつかったところを捕まえました。
Gus used his magic to change the size of things, enlarging a sign right where the birds were flying with a "Boom!", and caught them when they bumped into it.
ジャックスは透明になる魔法を使ってこっそり隠れ、食べ物を食べている小鳥をそーっと捕まえます。
Jax used his invisibility magic to hide stealthily, and gently caught the birds while they were eating food.
ドットも虫取り網を持ってお菓子の小鳥を一羽ずつ捕まえますが……小鳥たちの数が多すぎて、全然減りません。
Dot also held a bug net and caught the candy birds one by one, but... there were so many birds that the number didn't decrease at all.
「だめだ、多すぎるよ！」
"It's no use, there are too many!"
その時です。どこからともなく、魔法の呪文を唱える凛とした声が聞こえてきました。
Just then. From out of nowhere, a dignified voice chanting a magic spell could be heard.
「魔法まぜまぜ、すべてを洗い流す土砂降りよ！ エイッ！」
"Magic Mix, Rain cats and dogs! Yah!"
すると、街の空の上に急に雨雲が集まってきて、ザーッ！ と大量の雨が降ってきます。
Then, rain clouds suddenly gathered in the sky above the town, and a massive amount of rain poured down with a "Whoosh!"
空から降ってきた雨に濡れて、飴の小鳥も、チョコレートの小鳥も、クッキーの小鳥も、たちまちドロドロに溶けてしまいました。
Soaked by the rain falling from the sky, the candy birds, chocolate birds, and cookie birds instantly melted into a gooey mess.
しばらくすると雨は止み、街はすっかり静かになります。
After a while, the rain stopped, and the town became completely quiet.
雨を降らせる呪文で助けてくれたのは、上級生のアリスでした。
The one who saved them with the rain-making spell was the upperclassman, Alice.
彼女は手を腰に当てて、問題を起こしたドットをツンとした顔で叱ります。
With her hands on her hips, she scolded Dot, who had caused the problem, with a haughty look.
「まったく、騒がしいんだから。さあ、チョコやクッキーで汚れた街を掃除しなさい！」
"Good grief, you're so noisy. Now, go clean the town covered in chocolate and cookies!"
ドットは「ごめんなさい」と素直に謝った後、ニッコリ笑いました。
Dot honestly apologized, saying "I'm sorry," and then smiled brightly.
「アリス、助けてくれてありがとう！」
"Alice, thank you for helping me!"
そしてドットは、アイビーやガス、ジャックスたちと一緒に街の掃除に出かけていきました。
Then Dot, along with Ivy, Gus, Jax, and the others, headed out to clean the town.
それを見送ったアリスは、背中にこっそり隠していたクッキーを一口食べました。
Watching them go, Alice took a bite of a cookie she had been secretly hiding behind her back.
「……モグモグ。次は、負けないですからね」
"...Munch, munch. I won't lose next time."
アリスは小さな声でつぶやくと、少しだけ嬉しそうに微笑みました。
Alice muttered in a small voice and smiled, looking just a little bit happy.
不思議な魔法も発明も、誰かに自慢するためのものじゃなくて、友達と仲良くなるための道具なのかもしれません。
Mysterious magic and inventions might not be things to show off to someone, but tools to become good friends with others.
大切なのは、すごい魔法を見せびらかすことじゃなくて、失敗しても助けてくれる友達の存在だったんですね。
The important thing wasn't showing off amazing magic, but the presence of friends who help you even when you make mistakes.
