(The Mirror TV Mayhem!)
This is a world where both science and magic exist, a world different from ours.
Today's class at the magic school is about "magic to talk to someone far away through crystal balls."
When Ivy cast a spell on one of the crystal balls, the face of Alice, the upperclassman who was holding the other crystal ball as a teacher's assistant, was projected, and her voice could be heard.
"Ohoho! Ivy, you cast the spell beautifully."
But, as Alice waved her wand as if blowing a soft breath, the scenery reflected in the crystal ball vanished like smoke.
The teacher explained to everyone, "When you become upperclassmen, you will learn barrier magic to protect your privacy, so that people cannot look into your room without permission."
Hearing this, Jax said, his eyes sparkling,
"Heh! In that case, what would happen if I put all my power into the spell to break through that barrier magic? Alright, watch me!"
Jax rolled up his sleeves and chanted a spell toward the crystal ball with all his might.
"Magic Mix, Break through Alice's crystal ball! Yah!"
However, Alice snorted, nimbly twirled her wand, and chanted a spell.
Then, a blinding light shot out of Jax's crystal ball, sending Jax, along with his own magic, flying backward with a thud onto his bottom.
"Whoa-whoa! Ouch... Upperclassmen are really strong after all..."
Next was Dot's turn.
Dot thought it was boring to just exchange scenery and voices, and let her imagination run wild.
"Hey, instead of just exchanging scenery and voices, wouldn't it be great if we could exchange delicious cookies on the other side with things over here!"
Dot said this and chanted her own made-up spell.
"Magic Mix, change the delicious cookies that Alice is eating on the other side of the crystal ball with the eraser I have! Yah!"
And what do you think happened?
"Boom, bang, crash!"
Far from being able to exchange cookies, both crystal balls exploded into pieces, and thick black smoke billowed up.
The entire classroom turned white with smoke, and everyone's faces were black with soot.
Gus, his face covered in soot, calmly asked the teacher,
"When we become upperclassmen, do we also study magic to protect crystal balls from exploding?"
The teacher, with her face also covered in black soot, sighed with an exasperated look.
"We do not learn such magic! Dot, another huge failure from using a made-up spell. Go home and practice properly. That is your homework for today."
"Okay..."
Dot drooped her frizzy twin tails, replied meekly, and trudged back home.
When Dot got home and immediately consulted Doc, Doc grinned and pulled a gadget out from a mountain of inventions.
"Ha ha ha! If you cannot exchange things with magic, just use this! My latest invention: The Mirror TV!"
The machine was a television that looked a bit old, along with a remote control covered in many buttons.
"If you press a button on the remote control toward the television, the TV screen connects to the mirror of that channel, allowing you to exchange not only scenery and voices but also objects! Much easier and smarter than magic, right?"
"Wow, amazing! Thank you, Doc!"
Dot thanked Doc and immediately carried the TV and remote control in a handcart back to the school garden to show them off to Ivy and the others.
"Everyone, look, look! If we connect this TV to the mirror of a cookie shop, we can eat delicious cookies as much as we want!"
When Dot pressed a button on the remote control, the television screen truly connected to the cookie shop's mirror.
On the other side of the screen, freshly baked cookies were lined up.
When Dot reached her hand toward the television screen, to her surprise, her hand slipped through the screen, and she snatched a cookie from the other side.
"See, look! *Crunch*... Mmm, sweet and delicious!"
Gus said calmly, watching this.
"Wow, a real cookie actually came out! But Dot, if you eat it, you have to pay properly, otherwise the person who made it will be sad."
In exchange for the cookie Dot took, Gus tossed some money toward the screen.
The money slipped through the screen and was sucked into the area near the cookie shop's cash register.
Watching this, Jax's eyes sparkled brightly.
"Awesome! That looks like so much fun! Show me the other channels too!"
Jax snatched the remote control from Dot and connected the TV to the "Tropical Mirror."
A pleasant warm breeze blew out of the TV screen, displaying a beautiful blue sea, palm trees, and cold hibiscus juice on a table.
"Woo-hoo! Tropical juice! Looks delicious!"
Dot, getting angry, snatched the remote control back from Jax and connected the TV to the "Antarctic Mirror," showing cute penguins.
"See, Antarctic penguins! Cute, aren't they!"
Jax reached for the remote control again.
"Forget the penguins, let's look at lions instead!"
"No way! Let's look at rabbits next!"
"Let me use it!" "No, it's mine!"
Dot and Jax started a fierce tug-of-war over the remote control.
Ivy worriedly squeezed her hands tightly in front of her chest to try and stop them.
"You two, please don't fight, it's dangerous...!"
However, neither of them listened at all.
Snap!!!
With a loud crack, the remote control broke in half.
"Ah! The remote control is broken!"
That wasn't all. Violent sparks flew from the broken remote, and the TV screen began to shake violently with a terrifying sound.
To their horror, the TV connected to the "Broken Mirror of a Sunken Ship" sleeping quietly deep at the bottom of the ocean!
From the TV screen, Swoosh! Gush! a massive amount of ocean water came rushing out with a tremendous roar!
"Kyaaa! The water won't stop!"
"Waaaaah! We're being washed away!"
The school garden quickly became like a deep-sea attraction, and Dot and Jax were caught in the raging current and washed away, along with fish and octopuses that had been swept in from the bottom of the sea.
However, as if she had known this would happen, Ivy had quickly called a large bird and escaped to the sky, riding on its back.
"Dot! Climb up to a high place!"
And Gus climbed up onto a slightly high wall in the garden, leisurely casting a fishing line from there.
"Whoops... But with so many fish swimming right in front of me, this is perfect for dinner."
As they were washed away, Dot and Jax screamed desperately.
"Someone! Help us!"
Just then, a dignified, familiar magic spell reached their ears.
"Magic Mix, Scenery exchange, stop! Yah!"
The one chanting the spell was Alice, the upperclassman who had spotted the disaster at the school.
As Alice vigorously waved her wand toward the television, the TV screen quietly stopped reflecting the bottom of the sea.
Splash...
The rushing seawater came to a sudden halt, leaving a large amount of water and many fish splish-splashing all over the school garden.
Of course, Dot and Jax were severely scolded by the teacher for making a complete mess of the school garden.
"Dot! Jax! How dare you flood the entire school! As punishment, collect all the fish splashing in the garden and take them to the fish market in town!"
"Sigh... We're so sorry..."
The two looked downcast and tried to gather the fish, but collecting splashing fish in a flooded garden all by themselves was extremely hard work.
Then, their friends approached them.
Ivy smiled gently and called the little birds over.
"It's okay, we'll help you. Let's ask the birds to help herd the fish into the buckets too."
Gus smiled calmly as well.
"I'll help too. If we take them to the fishmonger, I wonder if he'll cook them for us?"
And...
Alice, though keeping a bit of a haughty face, let out a sigh and lent a hand.
"Phew... What a handful you underclassmen are. I, an upperclassman, will help you, so you better be grateful!"
Working together, everyone used buckets and nets to eagerly gather the splish-splashing fish.
Ivy's little birds herded the fish toward the buckets, Gus supported a large bucket, Jax and Dot eagerly caught the fish, and Alice gently manipulated the water with magic to carry the fish into the buckets.
Thanks to everyone combining their strength, the school garden was clean in no time, and they had gathered buckets full of fresh fish.
Then, everyone carried the fish to the fish market in town.
The fishmonger looked at the buckets full of fresh fish, widened his eyes in surprise, and was overjoyed.
"Oh! You brought so many fresh fish! Thank you, everyone! In return, I will treat you to an exceptionally delicious fish meal!"
The fishmonger roasted the freshly caught fish fragrantly for them, and made lots of piping hot fried fish and warm white fish soup.
"Wow, this is so delicious!" said Dot.
"Hot and fresh, it's the best!" said Jax.
"Hmph, well, homemade dishes aren't so bad either."
Alice also smiled happily as she took a bite of the fish dish.
Gus ate the fish soup happily, munching on it with relish.
"*Munch, munch*... After all, eating together after working hard with everyone is the best!"
Surrounded by everyone's smiles, Dot's heart felt a warm glow.
Rather than showing off amazing magic or inventions to someone, working hard together may lead to a much more fun time waiting ahead.
