第10章：カオスな手続き
車から降りて警察署に入った車から降りて警察署に入った。
（あまり時間がかからないといいんだけど…ルミミナは大丈夫かな？）
「どうぞお座りください…」
私は無表情で座った。
「では…なぜあの女の子を追いかけていたのですか？」
「あの女の子？急いでいたからスピードを出していたんです。」
「嘘をついている！」
「もちろん嘘なんかついていません。なぜ嘘をつく必要があるんですか？」
警官は立ち上がり、私を指差した。
「学生を高速で追いかける言い訳としては、ずいぶん都合の良い言い訳ですね。」
「…」
「一体、その根拠は何なんですか…？」
「私の強い正義感です。」
（時間の無駄だ。何とかしてここから出なければ…）
「警官さん、あなたの供述によると、時間経過に伴う加速の証拠は何もありません。物理的にどうしてそれが可能だったのか説明してください。」
「えっ…？」
「私の状況を理解するのに役立つような公式を何も説明してくれていない。まるでデータなしで振り子の速度を計算しようとしているようなものだ。」
「何を言っているんだ？」
警官は苛立ち、証拠を探し始めたが、その表情にはそれが表れていなかった。
「なぜ記録がないんだ？」
「分かりません。何かが真実だと証明するには、実験と証拠が必要です。記録がないということは、私は無実です。」
警官は歯を食いしばり、顔には恍惚とした表情を浮かべた。
「それでは無実の証明にはならない。起訴するには証拠が必要だ。そうすれば逮捕できる。」
そして彼は素早く様々な書類を調べ始めた。
「そのうち分かる。」
30分が経過したが……私はまだそこにいた。
「…」
「ちくしょう。ああ、君の言う通りだ。君を起訴する証拠はない…それに、君は私が最初に逮捕するはずだったのに。」
（え？そんな大げさな？私が逮捕されたいと思うわけないじゃないか！）
もううんざりだった。
「じゃあ、他に言うことがないなら、私は行くわ。」
椅子から立ち上がり、そっと立ち去った。警官は呆然としていて、実に滑稽な光景だった。
（こんなことが二度と起こらないといいんだけど…ところで、あのバカなルドヴィカとソウマは何をしているんだろう？きっとまだ…パーティーでもしてるんだろうな。）
警察署を出た頃には、夕日の光は既に薄れ始めていた。
（ああ、みんな私を見捨てたみたいだ。）
家路につく途中、声が聞こえた。
「オーランド。」
振り返ると…ルミミナだった。
彼女の金色の髪は、夕日のオレンジ色の光と美しくコントラストをなしていた。
彼女は私に向かって駆け寄り、抱きしめた。
「何か悪いことが起きたのかと思った…」
「大丈夫だよ、ルミミナ。ただの誤解だったんだ。」
「はは、そうね、オーランド。無事でよかった。この世界にテレポートしてきてからずっと助けてくれてありがとう。本当に感謝してる。」
「お礼なんて言わなくていいよ、ルミミナ。君を助けるのは僕の意思だったんだから。」
「本当に…ありがとう。」
彼女の緑色の瞳に涙が浮かんだ。何か言いたそうだったが、言葉が出てこなかった。
（誰だって同じ気持ちだっただろう。）
そんな彼女を見て、私の心には不思議な温かさがこみ上げてきた。
その時、葉月が現れた。
「オーランドとルミミナ、ルドヴィカ先生があなたたちに会いたがってるって。まだ学校にいるんでしょ？それと、お礼にこれを渡してほしいって。」
葉月は私に一枚の紙を渡した…それはリンネの住所だった。どうやら、リンネは私から逃げようとした時に、ノートに貼ってあったシールを落としてしまったらしい。
（なんて怠け者！私が困っている時にもシールを取りに来てくれなかった。私が苦しんでいる間、二人は踊っていたんだ。）
「ああ、あの変な子はここに住んでるみたいね。ありがとう。」「葉月。」
ルミミナは葉月の方を向き、優しく言った。
「ありがとう、葉月。」
「お礼なんて言わなくていいよ。さっき助けてくれた私の方からお礼を言うべきよ。本当にありがとう。」
葉月は顔を赤らめて去っていった。思ったほど冷たい人ではなかった。
ルミミナは私を抱きしめたまま、信じられないほど優しい目で私を見つめていた。その瞳には、涙が浮かんでいた。
「さあ、ルミニーナ、家に帰る時間だよ。」
「うん、オーランド。」

（家に着いた。ルミニーナが帰ってきたことだけが唯一の救いだ。彼女は本当に美しい。）
夕食中、ルミニーナにいくつか質問をしてみたかった。ほとんどは好奇心からだ。
「ルミニーナ、ところで、君の世界では魔法はどういう仕組みになっているの？ちょっと気になっただけなんだけど。」
「いい質問ね、オーランド。ええと、私の世界では治癒魔法しか使えないんだけど、魔法学校では、魔法は呪文を覚えるだけじゃなくて、発音や唱える時のイメージも重要だと教わるの。」
「ああ、やっと分かった。」
「それに、魔法を強化したり、効果を高めたりするアイテムもあるのよ。」
「まるで複数の変数がある方程式みたいね。一つの変数を変えれば、結果も変わるのよ。」
「ところで、ルミミナ、さっきあなたの魔法学校で見たような、あのドジなイベントって、あちらの魔法学校でもやってるの？」
「ええ、もちろん。トーナメントもあるわ。でも、ほとんどは娯楽目的よ。特に貴族のためのトーナメントはね。貴族たちはこの世界のあらゆるものを牛耳っているんだから。」
（うーん、ルドヴィカ2.0みたいな奴らに遭遇しないといいんだけど。）
私たちは平穏に夕食を終え、それぞれの部屋に戻った。
その夜はほとんど眠れなかった。リンネの住所を探し、できるだけ早くそこへ行き、商品の値段交渉をするための最も効率的なルートを計算していたからだ。

The officer stood up and pointed at me.
"You have a very convenient explanation for someone who was chasing a student at high speed."

"And where do you base these accusations on...?"
"On my strong sense of justice."

"Officer, according to your accusations, you don't support the acceleration over time. I demand that you explain to me physically how it was possible."

"You haven't explained the operation that describes my situation. It's like calculating a pendulum's velocity without any data."
"WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?"
The officer got annoyed and started checking for evidence, but her expression said otherwise.
"How come no camera caught you?"
"I don't know. You know that to say if something is true, you need experimentation and proof, and you don't have the recordings, so I'm innocent.”
The officer clenched her teeth euphorically.
“That doesn't prove you're innocent. There must be something that can incriminate you, and then I can lock you up.”
And she began to review several files very quickly.
“You'll see.”
…30 minutes passed, and I was still there.
“…”
“Damn it. Ugh, you know, I think you're right. I don't have the evidence to incriminate you like I would have liked…besides, you would have been my first arrest.”
(WHAT? All this drama? Why did I want to get arrested?)
I was already too annoyed.
“Well, if you have nothing to say, I'm leaving.”
I got up from the chair and left very carefully. The officer was left with that dumb look on her face; it made her look ridiculous.
(Anyway, I hope this doesn't happen again…by the way, what are those idiots Ludovica and Souma doing? They're probably still at their party.)
As I left the station, the rays of the setting sun were already fading.
(Well, it seems everyone abandoned me.)
Just as I was walking back home, I heard a voice:
"ORLANDO"
I turned around, and it was... Rumimina.
Her blonde hair contrasted sharply with the orange rays of the setting sun.
She rushed towards me and hugged me.
"I thought something bad had happened to you and..."
"Don't worry, Rumimina, it was just a misunderstanding."
"Hehe, yes, Orlando, I'm glad you're okay. Thank you for helping me since I came into this world. I owe you so much."
"You don't have to thank me, Rumimina. I chose to help you."
"Really... thank you so much."
Her green eyes began to fill with tears. For a moment, she seemed to want to say something else, but she couldn't find the words.

Seeing her like that made me feel strangely moved.
At that moment, she arrived Hazuki
“Orlando and Rumimina, Miss Ludovica sent me to see you. She’s still at the school, and she also sent me to give you this as payment.”

Rumimina turned to Hazuki and said in a sweet voice,

Hazuki left, blushing. It seemed she wasn’t so cold after all.
Rumimina, who was still hugging me, looked at me with very tender eyes and a few tears in her own.
“Well, Rumimina, it’s time to go home.”
“Yes. Orlando”

At dinner I wanted to ask Rumimina questions, mostly out of curiosity.

We finished dinner very peacefully and returned to our respective rooms.
I didn't sleep much that night; I was researching Rinne's address and calculating the most efficient route to get there as quickly as possible and negotiate the price of the items.
