第9章：予期せぬ追跡
その少女はルミミナより少し背が低く、身長は1.52メートルくらいだった。銅色を思わせる桃色の髪と、金色に染まった黄色の瞳をしていた。髪の一部はプラスチックのヘアクリップで留められていた。
（…交換留学生だろうか？）
彼女は「何見てんのよ、バカ！」と言わんばかりに、じっと私を見つめた。
イライラして振り返ろうとしたその時…
「おい、バカ！」
私は立ち止まった。
「大丈夫かとか、何か聞いてくれよ。変態みたいにじろじろ見てるじゃないか。」
「ごめん、もう行かなきゃ。忙しいんだ。」
「えっ！？」
少女は憤慨したように一歩前に出た。
「この脇役め、自己紹介させてくれよ。」
彼女は間髪入れずに、まるでカメラが何台もあるかのように、ドラマチックなポーズをいくつか決め、隅の方をじっと見つめた。
「私の名前は…かぐや凛音。この世界のヒロインよ。すべての秘密を見つけ出すの。」
…
私はすでに憤慨して振り返っていた。
背後から、彼女の怒りに満ちた声が聞こえた。
「バカな脇役！」
（また変人か…もしかしたら、完璧主義者が必要なのかも。）
私は生徒会室へと戻った。そこはまるでディスコのようになっていた。

私は勢いよくドアを開けた。部屋は色とりどりの光とディスコミュージックで満ち溢れていた…ルドヴィカと漫画家の男は驚いた顔で私を見て、音楽を止めた。他のメンバーは皆、まるで彫像のように、とんでもなく滑稽な表情で立ち尽くしていた。
「…」
「つまり、迷惑な奴…オーランド、遅いぞ。」
「見つからなかったんです。」
「彼女の特徴は伝えたはずだろ？」
「まったく、何の手がかりもないのにどうやって探し出せっていうんだ？」
「…ふむ、何か知ってるか、黒羽創真？」
彼は漫画オタクに話しかけた。
「ああ、愛しい人…さて、平民のオーランド、君が探している少女はかぐや凛音だ。くすんだ桃色の髪に、ほんのり金色の瞳をしている。」
信じられなかった。探していた少女は、さっきぶつかったばかりの少女だったのだ。
「今頃になって教えてくれるのか？説明の仕方も分かっていないようだな。」
凛音の後を追って、今度は別の出口から走り出した。だからルミミナが見つからなかったのだ。
（すぐに追いつける。窓越しに彼女の行き先が見えた。加速と初速、終速があれば、彼女が振り返る前に追いつけるはずだ。）
遠くに彼女の姿が見えた。
「凛音、止まれ！」
彼女は私を完全に無視して走り去った。
私は彼女を追いかけ、何本もの通りを駆け抜けた…少しずつ距離を縮めていった。
私が彼女を捕まえようとしたその時、リンネは振り返り、警官の方へ歩き出した。
「警官さん！あの男が私を尾行して嫌がらせしてるんです！わーい！」
「え？私？」 「そんなの嘘だ！」
リンネは大きくリードを奪った。
「そこで止まれ！警察官の命令だ！」
私は気にせず、警官に追われながらリンネを追いかけた。
（彼女には捕まらない。よっぽど速く走るか、何か有利な状況でもない限り。手袋は使えない。没収されて逮捕される。くそ、どうしよう？）
バキッ
車よりも速く走っていた時、何かを踏んでしまった…リンネが躓いたのと同じソーダ缶だ。
「いやーーー！」
「…」
警官が私に飛びかかってきた。
避けようとしたが、無駄だった。
「おいおい、離せ！」彼女は逃げようとしている！それが唯一の手がかりなんだ！
「坊主、尋問を受けることになるぞ。」
選択の余地はなかった。
私は警官の車に乗り込んだ。
（尋問は最悪のシナリオだ。もし脱出できたら、社会混乱理論を執筆するつもりだ。）

The girl seemed to be a little shorter than Rumimina, about 1.52 meters tall. She had peach-colored hair that reminded me of copper and yellow eyes that tended toward gold. A plastic clip held part of her hair back.

The girl took a step forward, indignant.

Without waiting, she struck several dramatic poses and looked at a corner as if there were several cameras.
“My name is… Rinne Kaguya, and I’m the heroine of this world where I’ll find all the secrets.”

I had already turned around, very indignant.
Behind me, I heard her furious voice.
“IDIOT SIDE CHARACTER!”
(Another weirdo… maybe we need a crazy perfectionist.)
I headed back to the student council room, which now looked like a disco.

I burst through the door. The room was full of colorful lights and disco music… Ludovica and the manga guy looked at me in surprise and stopped the music. Besides, the other members had stood there like statues with utterly ridiculous expressions.

“I mean, a nuisance… Orlando, you’re late.”
“I couldn’t find her.”
“Didn’t we give you her description?”
“Exactly, how do you expect me to find someone without any information?”
“…hmmm, do you know anything, Souma Kurobane?”
He addressed the manga fanatic.
“Yes, my love… Now then, commoner Orlando, the girl you’re looking for is named Rinne Kaguya. She has dull peach hair and slightly golden eyes.”
I couldn’t believe it. The girl I was looking for was the one I had just bumped into.

I ran after Rinne, this time through a different exit. That’s why I couldn’t find Rumimina again.

Rinne managed to gain a significant advantage.
"STOP RIGHT THERE IN THE NAME OF AUTHORITY!"
I didn't care and kept running after Rinne, with the officer right behind me.
(She's not going to catch me. She'd need to be incredibly fast or have some kind of advantage. I can't use my gloves because they'd confiscate them and arrest me. Damn it, what am I going to do?)
CRACK
While I was running at high speed, even faster than a car, I stepped on something... the same soda can Rinne had tripped over.
"NOOOOO!"
"…"
The officer lunged at me.
I tried to dodge her, but it was useless.
"Hey, hey, let me go! She's getting away, and that's my only lead!"
"Kid, you'll be questioned."
I had no choice.
I got into the inspector's car.
