A Day at the Amusement Park Retro Kids’ Horror & Haunted Amusement Park | JP & EN
「WELCOME TO HELL……」
THANK YOU FOR RIDING.
NEXT TIME, COME ALONE.
FINAL EXHIBIT
FOR YOU.
「……Next time……」
The five of us — the usual gang — had come to the amusement park together.
The autumn air was crisp and pleasant.
We decided to try a horror ride that had a reputation for being rather frightening.
In the darkness, green, red and purple lights flashed and flickered, while skeletons watched us from the shadows. From somewhere came the deep, heavily distorted voice of a man.
“WELCOME TO HELL……”
Ha ha ha ha ha ha—
CLUNK.
The ride plunged sharply downwards.
After screaming ourselves hoarse, by the time the five of us reached the exit, we were already laughing again.
We were cheerfully swapping impressions of the ride when one of us suddenly stopped.
Written in red letters on an old, weathered sign were the words:
THANK YOU FOR RIDING.
NEXT TIME, COME ALONE.
—Next time, come all by yourself.
For a moment, we fell silent.
Then, as though trying to laugh off that brief silence, we walked away together.
The next attraction we entered was an old wax museum. It was much quieter than the horror ride.
An old-fashioned street corner. A family gathered around a dining table. A scene from an old film.
The further inside we went, the stranger the exhibits became. But by then, the five of us had grown used to it, wandering along and saying whatever came to mind.
And then we reached the final gallery.
We opened the door.
Nobody spoke.
Standing there was—
the man from the horror ride.
He looked exactly as we had imagined him from the voice.
Now he stood before us as a wax figure.
Grinning.
One hand extended towards us.
On the display stood a small plaque.
FINAL EXHIBIT
FOR YOU.
The five of us forced ourselves to laugh and headed for the exit.
The last one to leave happened to glance back.
For a moment, the heavy folds of the curtain across the exit seemed to be grinning.
And from somewhere far away, deep inside the museum, came a voice.
“……Next time……”
Ha ha……
