4-23 "Only when you say “I did this” can you find the power to change it"

--------------------

> Something or someone else out there “doing it” to you, you disempower yourself to do anything about it. Only when you say “I did this” can you find the power to change it.

>

> It is much easier to change what you are doing than to change what another is doing.

>

> The first step in changing anything is to know and accept that you have chosen it to be what it is.

> (CWG 1:29)

--------------------

According to *Conversations with God*, the events of our lives are not random. At the level of the soul, each experience is prepared so that we may express and experience a particular aspect of our own divine nature.

In other words, from the soul's perspective, we ourselves are the ones who call these experiences into our lives. The soul, together with God, creates the circumstances that best serve our spiritual growth.

However, our conscious human mind cannot perceive the soul's deeper intentions. As a result, when difficulties arise, we naturally tend to believe that someone else is responsible for our suffering.

As long as we think, "This happened because of someone else," we remain powerless to change the situation. We continue to look outside ourselves for the cause, and therefore also for the solution.

*Conversations with God* teaches that real transformation begins the moment we say, **"This is my responsibility."** This does not mean blaming ourselves or feeling guilty. Rather, it means recognizing that we have the power to respond, to learn, and to grow from every experience.

When we accept responsibility for our lives, we begin to see the deeper purpose behind our experiences. That awareness becomes the first step toward genuine change.

From the perspective of *Conversations with God*, personal responsibility is not a burden—it is the doorway to freedom and conscious spiritual growth.
