4-10 “The most rapid way to change a root thought, or sponsoring idea, is to reverse the thought-word-deed process”
--------------------
> The usual method of creation for most human being is a three-step process involving thought, word, and deed, or action.
>
> First comes thought; the formative idea; the initial concept. Then comes the word.
>
> Most thoughts ultimately form themselves into words, which are often then written or spoken. This gives added energy to the thought, pushing it out into the world, where it can be noticed by others.
>
> Finally, in some cases words are put into action, and you have what you call a result; a physical world manifestation of what all started with a thought. Everything around you in your man-made world came into being in this way—or some variation of it. All three creation centers were used. But now comes the question: how to change a Sponsoring Thought? Yes, that is a very good question. And a very important one. For if humans do not change some of their Sponsoring Thoughts, humankind could doom itself to extinction.

>
> Do the deed that you want to have the new thought about. Then say the words that you want to have your new thought about. Do this often enough and you’ll train the mind to think a new way.

From the time we are born, we learn countless things from others and gradually adopt them as our own beliefs.
Yet once a belief takes root within us, it hardens into a fixed idea. Even when we wish to change it, we often find that we cannot do so easily.
In *Conversations with God*, this method of transformation is illustrated through the example of our attitude toward money.
The author, Neale, asks God, “Why can’t I live a life free from financial struggle?”
Influenced by his Catholic upbringing, Neale has long carried the belief that “money is evil.” At the same time, like most people, he also desires financial abundance. Within him exists a conflict between what he has been taught to believe and what he truly wants.
God explains that creation normally proceeds in the order of “thought–word–deed.” A belief such as “money is unclean” becomes expressed in words and eventually manifests in behavior.
To change this pattern, however, one must reverse the order.
First, express through action the reality you wish to experience. Then give it voice in your words.
“Money is good,” God suggests—speak it, and act consistently with that declaration.
By doing so repeatedly, a new thought will gradually emerge within you.
This teaching resonates with what was expressed in 4-8: *“Whatever you choose for yourself, give to another.”*
When you sincerely give to others (deed), a new thought begins to arise within you: “I have.”
And from that thought, a new reality is born.
