4-34 “Change to a new thought, then and there”

4-34 “When you have a thought that is not in alignment with your higher vision, change to a new thought, then and there”

--------------------

> When you have a thought that is not in alignment with your higher vision, change to a new thought, then and there.

>

> When you say a thing that is out of alignment with your grandest idea, make a note not to say something like that again.

>

> When you do a thing that is misaligned with your best intention, decide to make that the last time.

*Conversations with God* encourages us to do something both simple and profound: **when a thought arises that does not reflect your highest vision of yourself, choose a new thought immediately.**

If an unpleasant or negative thought suddenly appears in your mind, it does not necessarily represent who you really are. It is often nothing more than an old pattern surfacing from the past.

Of course, changing a thought in an instant is easier said than done. The beliefs that generate these thoughts often lie deep within the subconscious. Many of them were absorbed from our parents, schools, workplaces, or society long before we became aware of them. They have become familiar mental habits.

One way to transform these habits is to reverse the usual sequence of **thought → word → action**. Rather than waiting for your thoughts to change first, begin with your words or your actions. By consciously choosing uplifting words and positive actions, your thoughts gradually begin to follow.

A well-known Japanese business leader once said that, no matter what happened, he would first whisper to himself, **"I'm lucky."** Those simple words helped him shift his state of mind before negative thinking could take hold.

As for me, Inou, I try to do something similar. Whatever happens, I borrow a familiar expression from Facebook and quietly say to myself, **"Like!"** It is my small daily reminder to look for the good in every experience, trusting that even life's greatest challenges may contain a hidden gift.
