Coffee and Being Cool
Yuki tapped her finger on the desk, staring at her already-browsed Twitter timeline.
Kiko let out a long, discontent sigh.
“Alright, it’s getting annoying now.”
Rika stood up from her desk, and stretched her shoulders.
“You two clearly want to see Kaede.”
Kiko spun herself so she was looking in Yuki and Rika’s directions.
“It’s not really that big of a deal.”
“You two were definitely waiting for me to leave, so you could sneak off across the street.”
Yuki and Kiko looked at each other guiltily.
“Just go already.”
Yuki and Kiko were already standing, phones and wallets in hand.
“Roger that.”
“That was quick.”
Yuki and Kiko were already walking to the elevators.
“Wait!”
They stopped and Yuki turned tilted her head.
“Is something wrong?”
“No, I just thought you would be more reluctant to leave.”
“Really?”
Rika was now visibly disappointed.
“Yeah, I would be like the tough leader. I would scold you for not being focused, but in the end concede and earn points for secretly being cool and not a total stickler.”
Yuki frowned and walked over to her.
“You already secretly cool, you don’t need to earn points.”
Rika hung her head.
“So I am a stickler?”
She felt a familiar soft touch on her cheek.
“You’re the boss, we wouldn’t get much done if you weren’t a stickler.”
Rika still was frowning despite Yuki’s kiss.
“It’s your job, we really wouldn’t be too productive without you... As much as I wouldn’t like to admit that.”
Rika poked her forehead.
“That’s not a good thing.”
Yuki smiled.
“You’re the responsible one.”
“And, that’s why I have all the responsibility. If something doesn’t get done, I get in trouble. But...”
Yuki’s twin tails swayed as she leaned curiously towards Rika.
“I don’t only want to be the serious one, you know?”
Yuki tapped her chin, considering her options.
“I don’t think there’s really any point to me just saying I think you are cool, because I think you’re already the coolest person I know. What do you think you should be doing to be cooler?”
Rika patted Yuki’s head.
“I think you’re biased.”
“That’s why it’s up to you, I think.”
“I’ll take it easier, I think.”
Yuki looked towards the elevators.
“Do you want to go to see Kaede with us?”
Rika lifted her hand, an uneasy look widened her eyes.
“All of us, out of the office?”
Yuki rubbed her neck, as Rika looked around as if to see if anyone had heard them.
“I really don’t think anyone is going to notice, or care.”
“There isn’t much to do I guess.”
Rika took a deep breath.
“Okay, let’s go then.”
Yuki took Rika’s arm in hers and marched them off towards the elevators.
“My wallet and phone!”
“Don’t worry about them, I’ll pay.”
“What if someone needs me?”
“We’ll only be away for a little, just unplug for now.”
Yuki nudged her.
“It’s pretty cool if you do that.”
Rika looked uneasily towards her desk.
“I guess it’ll be alright. It feels weird though.”
“Let’s go get you some coffee, you’ll be fine.”
The elevator doors closed, and at the same time, the screen of Rika’s phone lit up.
