Strategy Meeting
While I was walking with Doc to my house where the wake was being held, I talked with him about my father who was developing an autopilot system of R.C. aircraft. And according to the information Doc had got from the person in the garden of my house, the system had recently been completed. It had remarkable performance so the aircrafts were accurately controlled. Even in strong wind, aircrafts never crashed and landed on the exact place where it was previously planned. The system was very compact and light-weighted since it was designed to be fitted to R.C. aircrafts. Anyhow, it was a success and created quite a sensation in the company. And it was the top executives of a large company who had strong interests in the system. They thought that the system could be applied to real aircraft.
And on August 23rd the day before the wake, there was supposed to be a business meeting with the large company at my father’s company. And before that, there was a demo flight of the autopilot system. My father flew R.C. aircraft on the airstrip at his company and the autopilot flight was performed perfectly. After that, a business meeting was held successfully and an agreement had been established. It was such an important agreement that enormous profits were expected.
Then, that evening, my father and other staff went to a Chinese restaurant named ‘Flying Squid’ to celebrate. And after the party, they were going to a karaoke lounge named ‘Marine Bottom’. And on the way at a large crossing to the karaoke lounge, all of a sudden, my father lay down sprawled out in the middle of the crossing, shouting, “I’ve done it!!”
Just then a large truck ran a red light and my father was run over. What bad luck! I guess my father was so over the moon and drunk that he just had to act that way, despite the fact that he was a teetotaler. Anyhow, Doc elicited such an important and detailed information from the person in the garden of my house. So I had to be grateful of his work. And we continued the strategy meeting.
“These are the events in the future and it must be possible to ‘correct’.” Doc said.
“Possible to correct?”
“We can change the ‘Future’ though we can’t change the ‘past’.”
“Ah, that was what you were saying.”
“Yes. I want to believe that we could save your father by changing the future.”
“But I think my father died and the wake is being held tonight and the party was held last night. So these are in the past, aren't they?”
“No. No. These are in the future!”
“Future? Why?”
“Remember, we’ve come from July 19th and you went to your house to see the champion team of high school baseball, only to find the wake is being held.”
“Oh, yes.”
“Anyhow, it's gonna be in the future, as long as we are ‘living’ on July 19th. Do you understand?”
“Well, I want to believe what you are saying though it is too complicated!”
“OK. Anyhow, let’s talk about the way to save your father.”
“Yes. Yes! But how can we do?”
“You know we have the Time Age Machine!”
“Ah! So we can go to the time when my father and the other staff are going to the karaoke place, then we ambush my father and prevent him from lying sprawled out on the crossing.”
“But, someone else might get run over instead.”
“Why?”
“Probably, it’s the law of nature. Your fathers’ destiny was to be run over by a truck. Well, you know it’s the law of nature!”
“OK. I understand. It’s a law of nature. So what?”
“The flow of time in the universe has a certain energy. And it tries to compensate.”
“Compensate what?”
“Well, your father was ‘scheduled’ to be killed in the universe. So if we simply prevent him from being killed such as kidnapping your father at the crossing and prevent him from being killed, the universe tries to compensate. This means that someone else might be killed instead or something like that.”
“Oh! But I still don’t understand what you are saying. It’s too complicated. It's too hard to understand. Well, you know I’m not a physicist!”
“Well, it’s OK. Anyway, what we need is to change the flow of time in universe to change the future thoroughly. Well, I omit the detailed theory since it contains the theory of relativity by Einstein and is too complicated.”
“OK. I only understand that it is too complicated. And Einstein is a good old friend of yours.”
“Common knowledge.”
“Well, anyhow, what we need is to change the future thoroughly. Is it OK?”
“Certainly.”
“Then what should we do?”
“If we do something so tiny, the universe may compensate. On the other hand, if we do something so big, the flow of time in universe might thoroughly be changed. Then the destination might be renewed.”
“Well, you are still saying something too complicated!”
“Well, I am a physicist!”
“OK. I understand you are a great physicist. And I’ve just understood that we should do something so big!”
“Preciously!”
“Well, how about destroying the earth?”
“Don’t be stupid. We would become extinct. So what we need is to do something so big, not doing something so tiny such as simply interacting with him.”
“So, in short what should we do?”
“The answer is to change the behavior of more than one person.”
“How many people?”
“I don’t know. But if we change the behavior of your father and the other staff of the company who will attend the party, then, it might work.”
“How can we change the behavior of so many people?”
“Remember what your mother said.”
“Ah, she said, ‘I hate such parties’.”
“Yes. If the party had not be held, the behavior of so many people would've be changed.”
“Well, I see.”
“If the party was not held, the attendees eat dinner at home which might increase the work of their wives.”
“Well, it might be the cause of quarrels.”
“And there is something more.”
“What?”
“The cuisine of ‘Flying Squid’ will not be eaten.”
“What was ‘Flying Squid’?”
“The Chinese restaurant!”
“Ah, where the party will be held.”
“Yes. And if we think about it, we can see so many things to be changed!”
“Ah.”
“But we must be careful about the fact that something similar to the original phenomenon might occur, even if we change so many conditions.”
“What does that mean?”
“We might save your father. But someone else might get sacrificed!”
“Oh! You mean something in relation to compensating the energy of the universe?”
“Yes, yes! You are quite smart. But we shouldn’t be worried about it too much because we have to change something. And what we need to do first is to prevent the party.”
“Well yeah. But how?”
“There is a way.”
