To the Victor Goes the Spoils

I felt a cool touch on the top of my forehead. The feel of it was very comforting. I opened my eyes and saw I was back inside the small hut, laying on my back with a cool rag on my forehead. It looked like some fabric from my cloud was torn off and used as a way to refresh me. I slowly got up and saw Pebble by my side. Both his arms were still destroyed and he had cracks all over his body but he was still full of energy.

“Thank you Pebble. I’m feeling much better now.” (Arin)

Pebble’s face looked like it was blushing again, but with no arms he struggle to hide his embarrassment.

“You deserve a nice long break to. Go back into your card form for now.” (Arin)

At that comment Pebble changed back from his physical form back to that of a card.

Small Damaged Golem

Name: Pebble

Rank: 4

Health: 4/40 Attack: 6 Defence: 17 Speed: 5 Intelligence: 11 Mana: 20

Skills: Harden Lv 7, Earth Magic Lv 9, Body Transformation Lv 3

- A golem 1 ft in high whose body is comprised of small rocks. It is currently damaged from combat and must rest in order for it to recover.

Looking at how his card had changed I guessed it would be for the best not to rely on Pebble for a while until he’s fully healed. Although thanks to the battle Pebble’s stats and skill levels had gone up by a bit. He even ended up learning a new skill [Body Transformation]. Looking back at the fight I guess that last attack we pulled off was thanks to this new skill. I wonder what other kinds of things we can pull off with this new skill but I guess I’ll hold off on experimenting for now. Aside from Pebble’s new powers there were also the cards from the goblins and lighting fang tiger to look over.

Lightning Fang Tiger Corpse

Rank 6

- The corpse of a tiger like monster that specializes in electrical attacks. Its fangs are sharper that most blades and have been known to even cut through stone. Although bloodied by battle the body is in good condition. If dismantled some parts of the body may become more valuable than others.

This was what I was working so hard to get. Since it’s only the corps I’ll wait to get it butchered into different parts before I decide to craft anything from it. With a rank six monster like this almost every part of it is valuable so it’s more like finding a treasure chest full of gold. Aside from that, even though they aren’t as rare as the lighting fang tiger I was able to find some useful stuff from among the defeated goblins.

Goblin Shaman’s Staff

Rank 3

- This staff is made from the skull and bones of various beast and adorn with black feathers. Among goblins it is believe that whoever were to brake this staff would be inflicted with horrifying misfortune. It reduces the time it takes to cast magic and increases magical attacks by 5%.

Most of the goblin material cards I collected were pretty common, but I was lucky enough to find something like this on the body of the goblin shaman. Just what could I get out from crafting with these cards. All the excitement from thinking suddenly made me realize how much pain I was still in from the battle.

It had finally gotten brighter and with the sun out it was the best time to make my way back to the village before I forget where I am again. The noise we made last night must have frightened other nearby monsters. Do to that I didn’t really see any other creature in the forest when walking back.

“I guess I don’t have to worry about getting into any more fights while I’m here. Hahaha.” (Arin)

After walking for roughly an hour and a half I had made my way back to the village entrance. I decided to head over to the village butchers shop. Whenever someone hunted anything in the forest he would be the most reliable person to butcher the beast while maintaining their valuable parts in quality condition. I walked up to the front of his place. The shop was roughly the size of any normal house in the village, but in the back of it was this barn like area where he did most of his work. I walked around back to see him working on the corps of a rabid rabbit.

“Hey old man Guts you busy right now.” (Arin)

“Who’s calling me old I’m obviously a young 38 year old! Oh it’s you Arin. Make yourself comfortable. I’ll get to you in a moment.” (Guts)

This man the village butcher Guts. He used to be an experienced adventurer with my father back in their prime. He’s a well built man roughly two meters tall. His beard was always messy and if you look carefully enough you can see little spots of monster blood staining his clothes. He may look intimidating to others but for as long as I’ve know him he’s always been more like a doting uncle to me.

“So I heard it was your first time hunting monsters since getting your soul card. Show me what you’ve got.” (Guts)

I grabs some of the material cards of the monsters and handed them over to Guts. I only took out the the cards of the rabid rabbits, the large ant, and the goblins we hunted. I laid them all out on top of the table he was working on.

“It’s pretty rare to find a large ant like this around here. Usually they stay underground, so you don’t see them above that often. You can definitely get some decent armor made out of it by your old man. Unfortunately there’s not much you can get out of a goblin corps aside from its blood and meat, but I don’t recommend eating it. Worst thing I’ve ever tasted haha.” (Guts)

“How soon can you get this all done by?” (Arin)

“Well it’s less than what you brought me when you brought in those horned wolves so it should take me less then a day. But you don’t care that much about these cards right. Show me what you really want me to work on.” (Guts)

Guts intuition was something scary. Whenever it came to monster materials he had this sixth sense that told him when a rare material was nearby.

“There’s no fooling you. Actually this is what I want you to work on dismantling the most.” (Arin)

From my back pocket I pulled out the card of the lighting fang tiger and handed it to Guts. His reaction was something I was looking forward to.

“What… What the hell is this! I’ve only read about this monster before! Where the hell did you find this thing, more importantly how did you survive!” (Guts)

“It’s not that I found it but more that it found me. And in all honesty I’m still rapping my head around how I made it out of that mess. (Arin)

“Now that you mention it you really look like shit, and that’s coming from me of all people. Wait… did you come straight here after hunting this thing?” (Guts)

I didn’t look Guts in the eye. I know from the tone in his voice I was in for a lecture.

“What kind of idiot comes to the butcher before going to the doctor with how banged up you are! Then again a guess I didn’t notice until now, but that’s not the point. Stop doing this crazy shit and get some proper treatment damn it!” (Guts)

Guts was shoving me out of his work area as he went on with his lecture.

“Alright I’ll make sure to see the doctor but can you tell me when you’ll be ready with that card?” (Arin)

“Who the hell do you think you’re talking to kid! It’ll take two days with this card added on but you can leave everything to me. I’m looking forward to what you make out of this.” (Guts)

With that I would take care of myself until he was ready butchering everything. And with that last fight I would have gained more than enough experience to get another [Character] card. Just what kind of creature would I be able to make with it? I would have to wait for l the two days would pass, but I knew something extraordinary was about to unfold.
