My First Companion

It was always believed that no living creature could become a card. The idea was only a fantasy, but what was in my hand was a card containing a monster that I was able to successfully craft. Even more than that the fact that it turned out to be a rank 4 card was the biggest surprise.

A cards value was determined by how high its rank was. Most common people can only craft average items at rank 2 and the highest, very rarely would a rank 3 appear. But some how I was able to turn a couple of rocks into a rank 4 monster.

I was so happy that my first card craft turned out to be so high I fell down to my knees it complete glee and shock.

“HELL YEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! This is incredible. I’ve heard of taming and summoning magic before but this. I might just be able to become a powerful adventurer with this. Although, he doesn’t look that powerful.” (Arin)

The size of the golem was said to be 1 ft tall. Normally a golem would be 3 meters tall with overwhelming strength, but this guy was tiny. How was I going to use him in a fight?

“Well might as well see what he can do.” (Arin)

With that said I held up my new card and began channeling my mana into it.

“Release!” With that command the card was engulfed into a bright light and within the next few seconds the small golem had materialized right in front of me. Its body looked like it was made of multiple small stones comprising the limbs and body with a much bigger stone making up its head. On its head were two small black stones which I assumed were used as its eyes. The golem turns its head towards me and begin to slowly come closer. It walks very slowly with its body swaying very slightly. Almost as if it were trying not to fall over. When it was right before me the golem wrapped its arms around my leg and started rubbing its head against me.

“Does this mean he likes me?” (Arin)

I thought as the golem still clung to my leg.

“It’s almost like I’ve become a parent. I wonder if I ever acted this way with my father before?” (Arin)

The golems hug was starting to get uncomfortable so I grabbed him with both my arms and lifted him up to be eye level.

“You know you’re pretty cute for a golem.” (Arin)

I don’t know how but it almost seemed like he was blushing from my words. Never thought I’d see a monster made of stone blush.

“It’s probably best to think of a name for you. I can’t just keep calling you golem forever.” (Arin)

Excited by my words the small golem shook its head fervently. I decided to put him down before the shaking made me drop him.

“Let me think. You look like you’re made of small rocks and pebbles. I know! How do you like the name Pebble?” (Arin)

The small golem’s black eyes looked as if they became shinier and almost immediately it grasped my let like it had before and became rubbing its head with even more intensity them before.

“I guess you like it huh? Alright then from now on your name is Pebble.” (Arin)

Now that my new companion had a name the next thing to do is to see how strong he was. When I looked at his card it said he had two skills, Harden Lv 2, and Earth Magic Lv 4. Being able to use the Harden skill was pretty common for any rock base monster but was more interesting was that Pebble could use earth element magic. All the years I’ve lived in my village I had only seen magic used once by a passing by adventurer that had visited for a short while.

“How about we test out your Earth Magic skill okay?” (Arin)

Pebble beat his chest with his arm expressing his confidence in his skill.

“Alright then, aim for that tree over there and hit it with some attack magic.” (Arin)

I pointed to one of the biggest trees in sight. Looking at the size even if it’s hit it should be able to withstand an attack.

Pebble raised both of his arms and formed a magic circle right in front of him. As the circle became fully formed multiple stones shot out at incredible speed and began shredding though the trunk of the tree. There were a few shots that only made deep impressions but a good handful of the stones were able to pierce the tree, flying out the other end of it. Just as Pebble was finishing his attack the tree fell back from having its sturdy trunk completely shattered.

“If I had taken that attack head on I would be dead in mere seconds.” (Arin)

I knelt down to Pebble and gently patted him on the head.

“Great job Pebble, I know you’re going to be of great help in the future.” (Arin)

With those words Pebble looked like he was blushing again, but this time he tried to hide his happy expression with his short arms. For some reason looking at a golem without a face blushing is very soothing for the heart.

“Hwaaaaaaa!!!” Suddenly I heard a cry coming from around the tree that Pebble had just demolished. I walked over to investigate only to find a wolf like monster. It was a bluish grey wolf with a pitch black horn protruding from its forehead. I’ve heard about this monster from my father all the time, It was a horned wolf. And from the size and color of its horn I would probably say that it was a pack leader. This was bad, It looked like the stones shot from Pebbles magic attack had wounded the horned wolf, and if it called for its pack there was a low chance of survival.

“We have to go now!” (Arin)

Unfortunately it was too late. As I turned around I could see multiple horned wolves surrounding us, slightly hidden by the forest. From the looks of it there were 10 in total. Counting the wounded pack leader we were dealing with 11 horned wolves all on our own.

“I guess we’re going to have to take them all down Pebble. Get ready to fight.” (Arin)

Pebble inspired by my words takes on a fighting stance with both arms ready to strike. As we braced ourselves for the fight the pack leader signaled the other wolves with a mighty howl and almost immediately every wolf charged at us. Suddenly, right before any of the wolves got within striking range of us, large stone spikes shot out from the ground, impaling every wolf at once. Blood gushed out from the backs of the wolves as the stone spikes shot straight through their stomachs, out their backs. All at once the wolves’ lifeless bodies fall to the ground leaving nothing but a pool of blood and gore. As the battle ended just as quickly as it began I looked down towards Pebble and saw him with multiple magic circles around him. He must have used a higher lever earth spell to save me. I knew he was loyal from what I saw written on his card but to see how reliable he was made me feel exited on what other things Pebble was capable of.

Well no point overthinking things now. Might as well turns these corpses into cards and see what I can use them form. With that thought I began, one by one, turning the horned wolves into new cards.

Horned Wolf Corpse X 11

Rank: 3

- The bloody corpse of a horned wolf. Due to the damage to the body its value is lower than its actual rank but many materials from it can be salvageable. Handle with care so as not to damage any further.

It was my first time battling monsters and I was able to acquire some high valued cards. Maybe if I get my father to help me butcher them I can get something even better out of them.

“Lets head home for now. I want to see what I can do with these new additions.”(Arin)

And with that Pebble and I made our way back to the village, where we would continue on our way to becoming stronger adventurers.
