The Power of the Cards
The power of the [Character] card is to create monsters.
At last the day has finally come. The day I turn 15 and receive my soul card.
Among everyone in the world are those with special cards thought of as a gift from god, each with their own powers and abilities. Some cards blessed people with the ability to use advance magic or summon forth weapons of immense power. Whatever it was every person who had a soul card would use it for things like becoming great adventurers or just for everyday use.
Today was that I was to receive me soul card and learn of the magnificent future it would lead me too.
“Arin, you ready to head out yet” (Ludo)
“Just a second father.” (Arin)
I ran into the den, almost tripping from moving to fast.
“I know you’re excited about finally getting your soul card today but if you don’t calm down you’re going to exhaust yourself before we get to the church.” (Ludo)
“I can’t help it father. I’ve been waiting for this for so long.” (Arin)
Ever since I was young I’ve always wanted to be an adventurer. All my life I spent in the village. Every day was peaceful but I always wanted to see more of the world. When people receive their soul cards they are recognized as adult and can leave the village if they wanted to. I couldn’t stand still with the thought of my dream finally becoming a reality.
Later that day my father had brought me to the city church. Because we were a small village the church was only slightly bigger then a regular house but it was well maintained by the priest and nuns living in it. Coming into it were others like me that had just turned 15 getting ready for the coming of age ceremony.
“Please let me get something I can make money off of!” (Villager 1)
“Not a farming card. Not a farming card. Not a farming card….” (Villager 2)
Many people were nervous about what kind of card they would get. It’s not surprising being that whatever card you got would determine what kind of job you had. Most of the time people would get a card that didn’t match the job they wanted to do. There was this one time the strongest fighter in the village believe he would acquire a soul card that would increase his strength but instead he got a card to help crops grow. He later became the best farmer in the village.
“Arin, son of Ludo, please step forward.” (Priest)
At last the head priest had called my name. I walked up to the priest and knelt down before him with my hands clasped together.
“As you have reach the age of adult hood I with the power bestowed to me by our great god usher you into the next chapter of your life’s journey. Receive now the power granted by our lord and be reborn anew.” (Priest)
Suddenly a bright light shined from above the priest. Within that light showed the silhouette of a card. As the light diminished and card slowly floated down until it was right in front of me.
“Raise your head child and reveal the name of the card before you.” (Priest)
I lifted my head to see the card hovering before me. My smile was evident but as I saw my soul card for the first time my grin turned into a look of puzzlement.
“Well my child what card has our lord given you?” (Priest)
“The card says… [Character].” (Arin)
It was the first time I had ever seen this card before. I guess the same could be said of everyone else present. I could hear the whispers and yammering of the people in attendance. I had no idea what the [Character] meant or how to even use this card, but I suddenly felt like the road to becoming an adventurer would become a long and challenging one.
The priest leaned down to my level and put his hand on my shoulder.
“Do not worry yourself to much. This card is most certainly a gift never before seen. I’m sure you will find some use for it.” (Priest)
And just like that my coming of age ceremony came to an end.
Instead of going home I went out into the woods to experiment with my new soul card. The [Character] card was unusual to say the least. Did it mean like a character in a story? Would this just be a card that would create stories? I had no clue what to make of it, so to satiate my curiosity I tried to perform a card craft with my newly acquired soul card.
Card crafting is a skill everyone that goes through the coming of age ceremony receives. With it people can create new powerful card using the soul card as a base and giving it properties of other cards in the users possession. I held my soul card in front of me and proclaimed, “Card Craft!” And just like that a bright screen appeared before me. At the center of the screen was my soul card [Character} and at each corner of the screen was an empty slot for other cards, four in total. I had heard from my father that when using the Card Craft skill you had to us other cards as materials. Unfortunately I didn’t have any other cards. Thanks to that I had to convert things around me into cards. Aside from combining soul cards together the Card Craft skill let me turn items I had into cards to be synthesized. At my feet I pick up a few rocks and was able to turn them into cards.
Small Rock
Rank: 0
- A stone the size of an infants hand. It has no value.
The new [Small Rock] cards showed not only what the material was but also how valuable it was and any other important information. With my four new cards I placed them in the corners of the screen in front of me and began crafting. Once all the cards were placed together the screen started to dissemble each rock card and had them absorbed into the [Character] card. Suddenly a flash of light illuminated the screen and a new card had appeared before me. As I grabbed the card my eyes were stunned by what I had just created.
Small Golem
Name: N/A
Rank: 4
Health: 40/40 Attack: 5 Defence: 8 Speed: 3 Intelligence: 8 Mana: 10
Skills: Harden Lv 2, Earth Magic Lv 4
- A golem 1 ft in high whose body is comprised of small rocks. Although it is weaker in strength compared to a regular golem it has a higher affinity to use magic. It Is very loyal and curious being. Likes shiny objects. Dislikes water.
Never in my life had I ever heard of someone using the Card Craft skill to create a living being. It was at this moment that I realized what power my soul card gave me. It gave me the ability to make monsters.
