Pebble’s Evolution
The three of us were shocked by Pebble’s new appearance. After absorbing the mithril ore into its body Pebble was somehow able to transform from his usual stone physique into a new mithril body. Liza was probably the most shocked out of all of us. At one point it had looked like she had fainted standing up. A few nudges to the should though was enough to snap her back to her senses.
“How is this possible? I’ve never heard of mithril golem before. Not to mention it wasn’t born made of mithril but evolved into one. This changes everything we know about golems. Arin what are we suppose to do now?” (Liza)
I could tell that this was a much bigger deal just from the fact that Liza had used my name properly. Honestly that was the most shocking thing about this situation to me.
Although I knew there was always more to Pebble than meet the eye. I felt like the beings created by my [Character] card were always special, so the fact that one could change so much kind of makes sense in hindsight. Interested in knowing more I used my [Character Appraisal] skill on Pebble to see if anything else about him has changed.

- A golem 1 ft in hight whose body is comprised of small rocks. It has a higher affinity to use magic than the average golem. It Is very loyal to its master and is a very curious being. Likes shiny objects. Dislikes water
What is with this change! First of all, Pebble no longer a small golem but a magic golem. I’ve never even heard of such a monster before. Pebble has gone through a full evolution into a new being with overwhelming powerful stats. The biggest change in is his stats was noticeably his mana. Sitting at 100 Pebble’s mana had surpassed even that of Raiden, arguably the strongest one among us.
There was also the new Job Class that wasn’t in Pebble’s status before. Makes sense that he would be classified as my familiar. As my oldest companion and combat partner I guess he just naturally fell into that classification. Though I never knew that Familiar could be a job someone has.
Along with Pebble’s new found growth it also appears that he’s gain a few new skills. [Magic Power Increase] must be why Pebble’s mana stat is so high, and [Growth] Seems like a self explanatory skill, but the biggest mystery was undoubtedly the [Secrets to Alchemy] skill.
“That’s weird. What kind of skill is the [Secrets to Alchemy]?” (Arin)
Almost as if responding to my words a description of the new skill appeared in the status window.
Secrets to Alchemy
- This skill gives the user to ability to absorb various stones, gems, ores, and metals, as well as to have their body take on the characteristics of said materials. If whatever is absorbed contains any trace of mana the user can absorb it into their body, raise their mana stat.
“Holy shit, that’s why that happened!” (Arin)
“What is it? Did you figure out what happened?” (Liza)
“Apparently Pebble evolved into something called a Magic Golem and because of that he learned a new skill that lets him absorb stones and metals to turn themselves into said materials.” (Arin)
“A magic golem! This is big news. I don’t that there’s ever been such a golem before. We might be looking at the first one ever to exist. And he can use the mithril he absorbed to increase his power further. That’s so not fair. I want the power to create mithril too. That’s every blacksmiths dream power.” (Liza)
“Master I think you broke her.” (Raiden)
“No I think she was alway broken Raiden.” (Arin)
Uninterested in the current conversation Pebble went of to the defeated Geo Golems and was started directing our attention to a specifieric body.
“Do you think the other bodies also have mithril in them?” (Raiden)
“That right, I almost forgot these things eat rare gems and ore. Out of my way, that mithril is mine!” (Liza)
Liza no out of her daze now began dissecting the bodies of the dead Geo Golems. With Pebble’s direction Liza was able to easily identify which body had something in them and which ones were worthless. Unfortunately there was no more mithril to be found, but thanks to Pebble she was able to find a large amount of iron ore, silver, gold, and the smallest about of platinum. Everything in front of us amounted to a small fortune worth enough to cover living expenses for half a year at the latest. Liza however was disappointed at the fact that there was no more mithril. She ended up curled up on the ground out of frustration trying to hold back from crying.
“It’s alright Liza. There’s bound to be more mithril as we go deeper in. Cheer up.” (Arin)
“Shut up you stupid zombie. I’m fine.” (Liza)
And just like that Liza’s switch was flipped and went from sad to annoyed at me. I feel like this girl is giving me whiplash.
“No need to fret boss. The female mind is a truly difficult thing to comprehend. You’ll understand it one day.” (Raiden)
“Why do you sound so condescending right now?” (Arin)
“Alright no more distractions, we need to move on before more monsters come swarming us.” (Liza)
There was nothing more we could get from the Geo Golem so the four of us put away everything we collected in card form and made our way deeper into the mine. Hopefully we don’t run into any more hard body monsters. I’m not the biggest fan on how annoying those types of enemies are to fight.
The last battle took us a fairly long time so we were approaching mid day at this point. Now as we dived deeper in we would take small breaks every now and again when Liza found a decent spot for mining.
For some reason Pebble had a sixth sense when it came to finding precious stones and ores. I guess golems just naturally know how to identify such things. During these mining stops when we weren’t catching our breaths Raiden and I we fighting off the occasional goblin or cave bat that came our way. Compared to Geo Golems these enemies were nice and easy to handle.
“Hey Liza, think it’s time to take a lunch break now? We’ve been at this for a few hours now.” (Arin)
“Just a little more, my mining instincts are screaming at me right now. I feel like I’m about to find something incredible. Almost there…” (Liza)
Liza with her pickaxe overhead started slamming the tip into the side of the tunnel we had just entered. After a few hits a large crack began to appear. With a few more hit the crack grew larger and larger until the wall of the tunnel began to collapse.
“Look out!” (Arin & Raiden)
Raiden was able to reach for Liza and pulled her out of the way before the rubble was able to bury her.
“Raiden, Liza, you both okay?” (Arin)
“No worries here master.” (Raiden)
“That’s a relief. Wait, were’s Pebble?” (Arin)
Thankfully Pebble was able to avoid the collapse and could be seen standing by where the wall was. Now in its place was a unknown passageway. It must have been made by a monster that burrowed unground at one point.
For some reason Pebble was really eager to go down the new tunnel.
“I think Pebble wants us to follow him down there.” (Arin)
“If that’s what Pebble wants then there must be something special on the other end of it. I think we should check it out. We might find more mithril down there.” (Liza)
“Master, I got a bad feeling about this.” (Raiden)
“I think we should see what Pebble want to show us. If it gets really bad we can always head back.” (Arin)
“Very well master. If that is what you wish.” (Raiden)
With curiosity we decided to go into the new tunnel and see what lays beyond it. I feel excited as we entered but the bad feeling Raiden mentioned sat in the back of my mind. Hopefully there’s nothing to worry about.
