替え玉作戦２
So I replied “Roger!”
それでぼくは了解！と答え
and took the transmitter from the top of the urinals,
そして小便器の上から送信機を取り
put on the snobbish sunglasses
キザなサングラスをかけ
and walked to the apron whistling the song ‘Take it Easy’.
口笛を吹きながら駐機場へ向かった
Doc told me ‘we were like two peas in a pod’
茶トラ先生はぼくとお父さんは瓜二つと言ったけど
and I was wearing my fathers’ snobbish sunglasses.
しかもぼくはキザなサングラスだし
So no one in the apron doubted me.
それで、だれもぼくを替え玉と気づかなかった
And there the demo flight was going to be ready
そこではデモフライトの準備はほぼ完了し
in exactly the same manner as we’d watched through the window of the car with Doc’s binoculars.
車の窓から双眼鏡で見た時と全く同様に
Then, as soon as I arrived,
そしてぼくが到着すると
one of the staff walked up to me
スタッフの一人が歩み寄り
and we did the ‘preflight briefing’ for the demo flight.
ぼくらはプリフライトブリーフィング（飛行前打ち合わせ）をやった
He said, “The end points of the ailerons are 12mm and 13mm right and left respectively with 30% of exponential. Then, rudder-elevator mixing is 5% and…”
（ずらりと専門用語です！）
He was speaking very technically and so complicated,
彼の話はとても専門的でややこしく
it was completely impossible to understand.
カンペキに理解不能！
So I simply replied “Roger!”
それでぼくはあっさり「了解！」と答えた
Then I looked back
それから後ろを振り返ると
to find the executives of the company
商談相手の会社のお偉いさんたちがいた
who were already sitting on the folding chairs
すでに折りたたみ椅子に座り
with an air of importance and smoking cigars.
偉そうな雰囲気で葉巻を吹かしていた
And another staff member introduced me to them.
そしてスタッフが、ぼくを彼らに紹介した
So I made a bow.
それでぼくはぺこりとおじぎをした
And since everything seemed to be OK for the flight,
そしてフライトの準備完了みたいだったので
I made a gesture of ‘thumbs up’
ぼくは親指を立てＯＫサイン
to one of the staff who was holding the aircraft ‘No.1’.
１号機を保持したスタッフに向かい
Then he started the engine.
するとスタッフはエンジンをかけた
And I could hear the sound like ‘Vueeeem pom pom popom…’
ヴウィ～～ンポンポンと聞こえてきた
And then he made a gesture of ‘Thumbs up’ and released the aircraft.
スタッフはＯＫサインを出し、飛行機を離した
So I moved the sticks of the transmitter of the aircraft.
それでぼくは飛行機の送信機を操作
And since I’ve operated R.C. cars,
ぼくはラジコンカーの経験があったので
I could just manage
何とか出来た
to control the aircraft
飛行機のコントロールを
taxiing to the end of the runway and to turn.
滑走路の端まで飛行機を誘導できた
注）taxiing 、タキシングとは飛行機が、駐機場から滑走路端までゆっくりと地上を走行することを示す。
So it seemed that the aircraft was cleared for takeoff!
それで当機は間もなく離陸いたしますって感じになった
But I’d never flown any R.C. aircraft!
でもぼくラジコン飛ばしたことないもんね！
So I didn’t know what would happen.
だからどうなるかわかったもんじゃない
And I unhesitatingly moved the stick to the maximum power.
で、とりあえずエンジン全開にしてみた
Then the engine began to roar and the aircraft dashed fiercely.
するとエンジンがうなり、飛行機はぶっとんだ
