第5話 空飛ぶ掃除機で大暴走！（The Zoom-Away Vacuum!）
それは科学も魔法もある、こことは別の世界。
This is a world where both science and magic exist, a world different from ours.
今日の魔法学校の授業は、みんなが楽しみにしていた「空中散歩」です。
Today's class at the magic school is the "Sky Walk" that everyone has been looking forward to.
「見ててくれよな！ 俺の特製プロペラ自転車、絶好調だぜ！」
"Watch me! My special propeller bike is in top form!"
ジャックスは力いっぱいペダルをこいで、スイスイと空を駆け回ります。
Jax pedaled with all his might, zooming smoothly through the sky.
お友達のアイビーも、大きな鳥さんの背中に乗って、優雅にパタパタと空を楽しんでいました。
Her friend Ivy was also enjoying the sky, gracefully flapping along on the back of a large bird.
「よーし、私も……。魔法まぜまぜ、お空へゴー！ エイッ！」
"Alright, my turn... Magic Mix, Go to the Sky! Yah!"
ドットも魔法の箒にまたがろうとしますが……あれれ？
Dot also tried to straddle her magic broom, but... huh?
箒はひらりと身をかわして、ドットを乗せてくれません。
The broom nimbly dodged and wouldn't let Dot get on.
無理やり乗ろうとすると、お尻をペンペン！ とはね飛ばし、おまけに砂埃までパッパッとかけてくるではありませんか。
When she tried to get on by force, it spanked her bottom "Whack!" and bumped her off, and on top of that, it even threw dust on her "Poof, poof!"
「もう！ 意地悪しないでよ〜！」
"Jeez! Don't be so mean~!"
ドットは箒に怒りますが、それを見ていた先生はドットのことをあきれた顔で叱りました。
Dot got angry at the broom, but the teacher, watching this, scolded Dot with an exasperated look.
「ドット、次までに練習してきなさい」
"Dot, make sure you practice for next time."
「はーい……」
"Okay..."
トボトボと家に帰ったドットは、いつも通り博士に相談します。
Trudging home, Dot consulted Doc as usual.
「ハハハ！ 箒がダメならこれがある！ 最新発明『スカイ・クリーナー』だ！」
"Ha ha ha! If a broom is no good, there's this! My latest invention: The Sky Cleaner!"
博士は、大きなホースがついたピカピカの掃除機を持ってきました。
Doc brought out a shiny vacuum cleaner with a large hose.
「吸い込む力をエンジンにするから、魔法なんていらないぞ。前を向けてスイッチを押すだけで、どこへでも飛んでいけるのさ！」
"It uses suction power as an engine, so you don't need magic. Just point it forward and press the switch, and you can fly anywhere!"
「わあ、すごい！ これなら私にもできる！」
"Wow, amazing! Even I can do this!"
ドットはさっそくジャックスとアイビーを呼んで、空の旅に出発します。
Dot immediately called Jax and Ivy and set off on a journey through the sky.
アイビーと並んで、「お花が綺麗だね」なんておしゃべりをしながら、のんびり景色を楽しみました。
Flying alongside Ivy, they enjoyed the scenery leisurely, chatting about things like, "The flowers are beautiful, aren't they?"
「よーしドット！ どっちが速いか競争しようぜ！」
"Alright, Dot! Let's race to see who's faster!"
しかし、ヤンチャなジャックスにとっては、ゆっくりお散歩するのは退屈だったのか、ドットに競争を提案しました。
However, a slow stroll must have been boring for the mischievous Jax, so he proposed a race to Dot.
「負けないんだから！ スイッチ、オン！」
"I won't lose! Switch, on!"
ジャックスが自転車をこげばこぐほど、ドットが掃除機のパワーを上げれば上げるほど、二人のスピードはどんどん上がっていきます。
The more Jax pedaled his bike and the more Dot turned up the vacuum's power, the faster their speed increased.
「やったー！ 私の勝ち……あ、あれ？」
"Yay! I win... wait, huh?"
ドットはゴールにしていた木と木の間を、ジャックスよりも先に通り過ぎましたが、なんと、掃除機のスイッチが戻らなくなってしまいました！
Dot passed between the trees that were their goal before Jax, but to her surprise, the vacuum's switch got stuck!
それどころか、吸い込む力が強すぎて、どんどんスピードが上がっていきます！
On the contrary, the suction power was so strong that her speed kept increasing!
「止まって！ 止まってよ〜！」
"Stop! Stop it~!"
猛スピードで街に飛び出したドットの掃除機は、パン屋さんの焼きたてパンや、洋服屋さんのヒラヒラしたスカートまで、ズズズーッ！ と吸い込みながら暴走し始めました。
Dot's vacuum flew into the town at breakneck speed, starting to run wild while sucking up everything with a "Vroooom!", from the bakery's freshly baked bread to the fluttering skirts at the clothing store.
「ごめんなさい！ 泥棒じゃないんです〜！」
"I'm sorry! I'm not a thief~!"
ドットが叫んでも、掃除機は止まってくれません。
Even though Dot shouted, the vacuum wouldn't stop.
そんな時、建物の屋上に立っていたアイビーが、空に向かって叫びました。
At that moment, Ivy, who was standing on the roof of a building, shouted into the sky.
「ドット！ 学校の大きな池に向かって！ そこで待ってるから！」
"Dot! Head for the big pond at school! We'll be waiting there!"
ドットは必死にハンドルを切り、学校の池を目指しました。
Dot desperately steered and aimed for the school pond.
すると横から、すごい勢いで近づいてくる影が見えます。
Then, she saw a shadow approaching from the side with tremendous momentum.
ジャックスです！ 彼は自転車を全力でこぎながら、背中をアイビーの鳥さんにガシッ！ と掴んでもらっていました。
It was Jax! He was pedaling his bike with all his might while having his back firmly grabbed "Grab!" by Ivy's bird.
鳥の羽ばたきと自転車のパワー、二つの力を合わせて、暴走する掃除機に追いついたのです！
Combining the two powers—the bird's flapping and the bike's power—they had caught up to the runaway vacuum!
「ドット！ 掃除機を池に捨てて、俺の手を掴んで！」
"Dot! Throw the vacuum into the pond and grab my hand!"
「ジャックス！ うん、わかった！」
"Jax! Yeah, got it!"
ドットは掃除機を池の方へ向けると、ジャックスが差し出した手をギュッ！ と握りました。
Dot aimed the vacuum toward the pond and squeezed the hand Jax held out. "Squeeze!"
ドボーン！！
Splash!!
掃除機は大きな水しぶきをあげて池に落ち、ようやく止まりました。
The vacuum fell into the pond with a huge splash and finally stopped.
ドットはジャックスの手にぶら下がって、間一髪で助かったのです。
Hanging from Jax's hand, Dot was saved in the nick of time.
帰り道、ドットはジャックスの自転車の後ろに乗せてもらいました。
On the way home, Dot got a ride on the back of Jax's bike.
「ジャックス、アイビー、ありがとう。二人のおかげで助かったよ」
"Jax, Ivy, thank you. Thanks to you two, I was saved."
空を飛ぶ鳥の上のアイビーが、優しく手を振ってくれました。
Ivy, on the bird flying in the sky, gently waved her hand.
自分の力で解決できない時は、高性能な機械に頼るだけじゃなくて、友達に「助けて」って頼ってもいいんだ。
When you can't solve something on your own, it's okay to not just rely on high-performance machines, but also to ask your friends for "help."
大切なのは、一人で何でもこなす魔法じゃなくて、誰かと手をつなげる素直な心だったんですね。
The important thing wasn't magic that lets you do everything alone, but the honest heart to join hands with someone.
