第4話 博物館の忘れんぼう！（Forgetful Fossils!）
それは科学も魔法もある、こことは別の世界。
This is a world where both science and magic exist, a world different from ours.
今日は魔法学校の遠足で、みんなで「恐竜博物館」へやってきました。
Today, for the magic school field trip, everyone came to the "Dinosaur Museum."
「うーん……。やっぱり骨だけじゃ、あんまりワクワクしないなぁ」
"Hmm... honestly, just looking at bones isn't very exciting."
大きなティラノサウルスの化石を見上げて、ジャックスがつまらなそうに言います。
Looking up at the large Tyrannosaurus fossil, Jax said with a bored look.
「動物園みたいに、ガオーッて動いてくれたら最高なのに！」
"It would be awesome if they moved and roared like in a zoo!"
それを聞いた博物館の館長さんは、ガックリと肩を落としてションボリしてしまいました。
Hearing this, the museum director slumped his shoulders, looking dejected.
「これでも、一生懸命組み立てた自慢の化石たちなんだけどねぇ……」
"Even so, these are my pride and joy fossils that I worked so hard to assemble..."
「よし、任せて！ 私が動かしてあげる！」
"Alright, leave it to me! I'll make them move for you!"
ドットは杖をビュンと振りました。
Dot swung her wand with a swoosh.
「魔法まぜまぜ、化石よ動け！ エイッ！」
"Magic Mix, Fossils Move! Yah!"
ボフン！ 白い煙が消えると……巨大なティラノサウルスが、骨をご機嫌に鳴らしながら、その場でタップダンスを踊り始めたではありませんか！
Puff! When the white smoke cleared... the giant Tyrannosaurus started tap-dancing right there, clacking its bones happily!
「あはは！ 面白いけど、なんか違うぜドット！」
"Ahaha! That's funny, but it's kinda different from what I meant, Dot!"
ジャックスは笑っていますが、ドットはまたまた先生に怒られてしまいました。
Jax was laughing, but Dot got scolded by the teacher yet again.
「ドット、博物館でふざけてはいけません！」
"Dot, you must not fool around in the museum!"
「はーい……。でも、本当にかっこよく動かしてあげたいなぁ」
"Okay... But I really wanted to make them move coolly."
ドットは家に帰り、博士に相談します。
Dot went home and consulted Doc.
すると博士は、ピカピカのハンドベルのような道具を取り出しました。
Then, Doc took out a shiny tool that looked like a handbell.
「ハハハ！ それならこれだ！ 最新発明『思い出しチャイム』！」
"Ha ha ha! In that case, this is it! My latest invention: The Reminder Chime!"
「何をしようとしたか忘れた時に使うものだけど、これを化石に聞かせれば、昔どうやって動いていたか、骨が思い出してくれるはずさ！」
"It's usually used when you forget what you were trying to do, but if you let the fossils hear this, the bones should remember how they used to move!"
「わあ、すごい！ アイビー、ガス、手伝って！」
"Wow, amazing! Ivy, Gus, help me out!"
ドットは仲良しの二人を呼んで、もう一度博物館へ向かいます。
Dot called her two good friends and headed to the museum once again.
まず、みんなで館中の化石に、その場で足踏みする魔法をかけて回ります。
First, they cast a spell on all the fossils in the museum to make them march in place.
何故かドットの魔法ではタップダンスになってしまいますが、大丈夫！
For some reason, Dot's magic turned it into a tap dance, but that was fine!
最後にチャイムを「チリン、チリーン！」と鳴らせば……なんということでしょう！
Finally, when she rang the chime "Ding, ding!", ...what a surprise!
カタカタとぎこちなく動いていた骨たちが、突然、まるで生きているかのような迫力で走り出したのです！
The bones that were moving awkwardly with a clatter suddenly started running with lifelike power!
「すごーい！ 本物の恐竜みたい！」
"Amazing! It's like real dinosaurs!"
三人は大喜び！……でしたが、すぐに顔が青ざめました。
The three were overjoyed! ...But soon, their faces went pale.
昔の動きを思い出した肉食恐竜たちは、お腹が空いていたことまで思い出してしまったのです！
The carnivorous dinosaurs, remembering their old movements, also remembered that they were hungry!
「ガオーッ！」
"Roar!"
ティラノサウルスが、鋭い牙をガチガチ鳴らしてドットたちを追いかけてきます！
The Tyrannosaurus chased after Dot and her friends, gnashing its sharp fangs!
「大変！ 食べられちゃう！ ティラノサウルスさん、止まって！」
"Oh no! We're gonna get eaten! Mr. Tyrannosaurus, stop!"
アイビーが必死に話しかけますが、野生の記憶を思い出した恐竜には言葉が通じません。
Ivy tried desperately to talk to it, but her words didn't reach the dinosaur that had recalled its wild memories.
「それなら、タペヤラさん、お願い、少しだけ力を貸して」
"In that case, Mr. Tapejara, please, lend me your strength for a bit."
アイビーは、空を飛ぶトサカの翼竜に助けてもらい、ティラノサウルスの注意を引いている隙になんとか物陰に隠れました。
Ivy got help from the crested pterosaur flying in the sky and managed to hide in the shadows while it distracted the Tyrannosaurus.
「ふぅ……。あれ？ 大変、ガスがいないわ！」
"Phew... Huh? Oh no, Gus isn't here!"
振り返ると、さっきまで一緒に逃げていたガスの姿がありません。
Looking back, Gus, who had been running with them until a moment ago, was nowhere to be seen.
「まさか、食べられちゃったんじゃ……！」
"Don't tell me he was eaten...!"
二人が泣きそうになったその時、入り口の方からおっとりとした声が聞こえてきました。
Just as the two were about to cry, a slow, calm voice came from the entrance.
「はいはい、お腹が空いたならこれをどうぞ。喧嘩しちゃダメだよ」
"There, there, if you're hungry, have this. No fighting now."
見ると、そこには山のような「牛や豚の骨」を抱えたガスが立っていました。
Looking over, they saw Gus standing there holding a mountain of "cow and pig bones."
ガスは近所のお肉屋さんから、ゴミになるはずだった骨をたくさんもらってきたのです。
Gus had gotten a lot of bones that were going to be thrown away from the neighborhood butcher.
「相手に肉がないなら、こっちも肉をあげる必要はないと思ったんだ。骨だけで十分だよね？」
"Since they don't have any meat, I thought we didn't need to give them meat either. Bones are enough, right?"
ティラノサウルスは差し出された骨をバリバリと美味しそうに食べると、満足したのか、そのまま丸くなって眠ってしまいました。
The Tyrannosaurus crunched on the offered bones deliciously, and seemingly satisfied, curled up and fell asleep.
ちょうどそこでドットたちの足踏み魔法も時間切れ。恐竜たちはまた、静かな化石に戻ったのでした。
Just then, Dot's marching magic ran out of time. The dinosaurs returned to being quiet fossils once again.
「館長さん、大騒ぎさせてごめんなさい……」
"Director, I'm sorry for causing such a commotion..."
ドットが謝ると、館長さんは目を輝かせてドットの手を握りました。
When Dot apologized, the director's eyes sparkled, and he shook Dot's hand.
「とんでもない！ あんなに迫力のある動きを見られたのは、人生で初めてだよ！ ありがとう！」
"Not at all! It's the first time in my life I've seen such powerful movement! Thank you!"
数日後、招待された生徒たちがまた博物館を訪れると、みんな驚きました。
A few days later, when the invited students visited the museum again, everyone was surprised.
化石たちは前のようにただ立っているだけではありません。
The fossils weren't just standing there like before.
大きな口を開けて獲物を追いかけたり、空を飛ぼうとしたり、今にも動き出しそうな「最高にかっこいいポーズ」で飾られていたのです。
They were displayed in "super cool poses," looking as if they were about to move, chasing prey with mouths wide open or trying to fly.
「うっひょー！ 今にも飛び出してきそうだ！ かっこいいぜ！」
"Woo-hoo! It looks like it's gonna jump out any second! So cool!"
ジャックスも大満足！ それを見て館長さんもニコニコ。
Jax was totally satisfied too! Seeing that, the director smiled happily.
魔法や発明で無理やり動かさなくても、少しの知識と工夫があれば、人の心を動かすことができるんですね。
Even without forcing things to move with magic or inventions, with a little knowledge and creativity, you can move people's hearts.
