第3話 小さな人形と大きな冒険！（The Tiny Toy Expedition!）
それは科学も魔法もある、こことは別の世界。
This is a world where both science and magic exist, a world different from ours.
今日も魔法学校の教室では、見習い魔女のドットが一生懸命に杖を振っていました。
Today, in the magic school classroom, Dot, a trainee witch, was enthusiastically waving her wand.
「よーし、今度こそ！ 魔法まぜまぜ、トコトコ歩け！ エイッ！」
"Alright, this time for sure! Magic Mix, Walk Toco-Toco! Yah!"
ドットが魔法をかけたのは、木で作られた小さな女の子の人形です。
Dot cast the spell on a small wooden doll of a girl.
本当なら、ドットの命令通りに真っ直ぐ歩くはずなのですが……。
Normally, it should have walked straight as Dot commanded, but…
「あれれ？ 止まって！ そっちは窓だよ！」
"Oh no? Stop! That's the window!"
人形はドットの言うことなんてちっとも聞かずに、その場で楽しそうにタップダンスを踊り始めてしまいました。
The doll didn't listen to Dot at all and started tap-dancing happily right there.
それを見ていた同級生のジャックスが、目を輝かせて駆け寄ってきます。
Watching this, her classmate Jax ran over, his eyes sparkling.
「すげー！ ドット、その人形、めちゃくちゃカッコいいダンスを踊るな！」
"Awesome! Dot, that doll is doing a super cool dance!"
「ありがとうジャックス。でも、本当は真っ直ぐ歩かせなきゃいけないんだよ……」
"Thanks, Jax. But actually, I'm supposed to make it walk straight..."
案の定、先生はあきれた顔でため息をつきました。
As expected, the teacher sighed with a look of exasperation.
「ドット、次までにちゃんと練習してくること」
"Dot, make sure you practice properly for next time."
「はーい……」
"Okay..."
ドットがガックリと肩を落としていると、ジャックスがニカッと笑って言いました。
As Dot slumped her shoulders, Jax grinned and said,
「いいじゃんか、ダンス人形！ でも、もっとワクワクする大冒険ができたら最高だよな！」
"A dancing doll is cool! But it would be the best if we could go on a thrilling big adventure!"
家に帰ったドットは、さっそく博士に相談しました。
Dot went home and immediately consulted Doc.
すると、博士は自慢げに鼻を膨らませて、ある道具を取り出します。
Then, Doc puffed out his nose proudly and took out a tool.
「ハハハ！ 人形で冒険したいなら、自分が人形になっちゃえばいいのさ！ これぞ発明『アンテナ人形セット』だ！」
"Ha ha ha! If you want to adventure with a doll, you just have to become a doll yourself! This is the invention: The Antenna Doll Set!"
それは、小さな人形と、ピカピカ光るゴーグルのセットでした。
It was a set containing a small doll and sparkling goggles.
「このゴーグルを着けて眠れば、心だけが人形の中にジャンプするんだ。元に戻りたい時は、誰かに『ほっぺた』をつねってもらえばいいだけさ！」
"If you sleep wearing these goggles, only your mind will jump into the doll. When you want to return, just have someone pinch your cheek!"
「わあ、面白そう！ 博士、ありがとう！」
"Wow, sounds fun! Thank you, Doc!"
翌日、ドットが学校でこの人形を見せると、ジャックスは大興奮。
The next day, when Dot showed the doll at school, Jax was super excited.
「これだ！ これを使えば、学校の庭がジャングルみたいな大冒険の舞台になるぜ！」
"This is it! If we use this, the school garden will become the stage for a big adventure like a jungle!"
おっとりしたガスの「危なくないかなぁ」という心配や、アイビーの「お庭の虫さんたちを驚かせないでね」という注意もどこ吹く風。
Gus's slow-paced worry, "Is it safe?", and Ivy's warning, "Don't scare the bugs in the garden," were blown away by the wind.
ドットとジャックスはゴーグルを装着すると、アイビーの眠りの魔法でスヤスヤと眠りにつきました。
Dot and Jax put on the goggles and fell fast asleep with Ivy's sleeping magic.
パチッと目が覚めると……そこはもう、別世界です！
Snap! When they opened their eyes... it was already a different world!
「うわあ！ 見てよジャックス！ 芝生がジャングルみたいに高いよ！」
"Whoa! Look, Jax! The grass is as tall as a jungle!"
二人は手のひらサイズの人形になって、学校の庭に立っていました。
The two stood in the school garden as palm-sized dolls.
転がっている空き缶は巨大なビルのようで、小さな滑り台は空まで届きそうな絶叫マシンに見えます。
An empty can rolling around looked like a huge building, and the small slide looked like a screaming roller coaster reaching the sky.
「これだよ、このロマンだ！ 行くぜ、ドット！」
"This is it, this is the romance! Let's go, Dot!"
二人が草をかき分け、冒険を楽しんでいたその時です。
Just as they were parting the grass and enjoying the adventure.
少し開けた場所にある大きな岩の上に、恐ろしい影が見えました。
They saw a terrifying shadow on a large rock in a slightly open clearing.
「……ッ！ ジャックス、あれ見て！」
"...Gasp! Jax, look at that!"
そこには、太い腕で力強く腕立て伏せをする、緑色の鱗に包まれた恐ろしいドラゴンがいたのです！
There was a terrifying dragon covered in green scales, doing push-ups powerfully with its thick arms!
ドラゴンがギロリと二人を睨みました。
The dragon glared at the two.
「ギャー！ 逃げろー！」
"Gyaaa! Run!"
二人は必死に走りますが、ドラゴンの足は速く、鋭い口がすぐそこまで迫ってきます。
They ran desperately, but the dragon was fast, and its sharp mouth was closing in on them.
「このままじゃ二人とも食べられちゃう！ ジャックス、どうしよう！」
"At this rate, we'll both be eaten! Jax, what should we do!"
その時、ジャックスがドットの肩をグッと押します。
At that moment, Jax pushed Dot's shoulder hard.
「ドット、先に行け！ 俺が食い止める！」
"Dot, go ahead! I'll hold it back!"
「えっ、でも……！」
"Eh, but...!"
「いいから！ 戻ったらすぐ、俺のほっぺをつねってくれ！」
"Just go! Pinch my cheek as soon as you get back!"
ジャックスはドットのほっぺたを力いっぱい「ギュッ！」とつねりました。
Jax pinched Dot's cheek with all his might. "Squeeze!"
すると、ドットの視界が真っ白になり……。
Then, Dot's vision went white…
「……ジャックス！」
"...Jax!"
教室で目を覚ましたドットは、隣で眠るジャックス、そして心配そうに見守るガスとアイビーに叫びました。
Dot woke up in the classroom and shouted to Jax sleeping next to her, and to Gus and Ivy watching worriedly.
「大変！ ジャックスがドラゴンに襲われてるの！ 早く助けに行かなきゃ！」
"Oh no! Jax is being attacked by a dragon! We have to go help him quickly!"
三人は大急ぎで庭へ駆け出しました。
The three rushed out to the garden.
ドットがさっきまでいた場所へ着くと……そこには。
When they reached the place where Dot was just a moment ago... there it was.
「……あ」
"...Ah."
そこには、一匹の小さなトカゲ――グリーン・アノールに、人形の頭を「ガブッ」と甘噛みされているジャックス人形が転がっていました。
There, a Jax doll was rolling around, having its head gently chewed "Chomp" by a small lizard—a green anole.
人形のジャックスから見れば恐ろしい怪獣ですが、人間のドットたちから見れば、それはとても小さくて可愛らしいトカゲです。
From the doll Jax's point of view, it was a terrifying monster, but from the human Dot's point of view, it was a very small and cute lizard.
「もう、びっくりさせないでよ。ほら、おいで」
"Geez, don't scare us. Come here."
アイビーが優しく手を出してトカゲを呼ぶと、トカゲは満足そうにジャックスを離しました。
When Ivy gently held out her hand and called the lizard, the lizard let go of Jax with a satisfied look.
そこへガスがやってきて、ジャックス人形のほっぺたを「ムギュッ」とつねります。
Then Gus came over and pinched the Jax doll's cheek. "Squeeze!"
「……うわあああ！ 食われるー！」
"...Waaaaah! I'm gonna be eaten!"
目を覚まして飛び起きたジャックスは、目の前にみんなの顔があるのを見て、ホッと腰を抜かしました。
Jax jumped up awake, saw everyone's faces in front of him, and collapsed in relief.
「なんだ……トカゲだったのか。……でも、すげー怖かったんだぞ！」
"What... it was a lizard? ...But, it was super scary!"
そのあと、四人はそのトカゲを教室で飼うことにしました。
After that, the four decided to keep the lizard in the classroom.
ジャックスはライトの位置を真剣に調整し、アイビーは霧吹きで水をシュッシュッ。
Jax seriously adjusted the position of the light, and Ivy sprayed water "Spritz, spritz".
ガスは「お腹空いたよね」とピンセットでおやつをあげて、ドットはその隣で、魔法の人形に楽しいタップダンスを踊らせています。
Gus fed it snacks with tweezers saying "You're hungry, aren't you?", and Dot made the magic doll tap dance happily next to it.
魔法の冒険もワクワクするけれど、みんなで協力してお世話をする時間は、もっと心がポカポカするのでした。
Magical adventures are exciting, but working together to take care of something warmed their hearts even more.
大切なのは、大きなロマンじゃなくて、すぐそばにいる友達と一緒に笑い合える時間だったんですね。
The important thing wasn't grand adventures, but the time spent laughing together with the friends right beside you.
