オリバーという名の高校生は、その日、楽しく過ごしていた。しかし、同級生たちにいじめられたことで、事態は急転直下する。オリバーは自分に自信を失い、クローゼットの中に隠れていたが、ついには部屋から飛び出して逃げ出すことにした。
廊下の奥まで走ったオリバーは、ロッカーにもたれかかり、泣き出した。同時に、いじめっ子たちに負けてしまった自分を責め、腹を立てていた。
オリバーは非常口から学校を出て、家へと走り出した。
家に着くと、両親はまだ帰っていなかったので、オリバーはパソコンの電源を入れ、お気に入りのアクションRPGゲーム『バーニング・ネコロビ』をプレイして気分転換をする。彼は、お気に入りのキャラクターである、トレントという名の10代の擬人化犬を選んだ。ゲーム内でトレントが他のキャラクターと穏やかで大人びた口調で会話しているのを見ながら、オリバーはため息をつき、自分もトレントのようになりたいとつぶやく。オリバーがトレントを好きなのは、彼を見ていると力が湧き、勇気づけられるからだ。トレントは賢く勇敢でありながら、穏やかで思いやりのある人物に見える。突然、パソコンのモニターが奇妙な光を放ち始め、オリバーの部屋の窓にひびが入ったため、彼は視線をそらした。振り返ると、パソコンの画面から一対の黒い耳が突き出していた。オリバーは、それがトレントのトレードマークである耳だと直感した。
オリバーがパソコンから震えながら後ずさると、その直後に、浮遊しながらパソコンの中から残りの姿が現れた。オリバーはそれがトレントだと確信したが、そのジャッカルのような犬は眠っているように見えた。ジャッカルは目を開き、オリバーをまっすぐに見つめて「ここはどこだ？」と問いかけた。オリバーは「何が起きているのかよく分からないが、トレントが、俺がビデオゲームをしていたパソコンから出てきたんだ」と答えた。トレントの驚きはすぐに消え、ゲームでよく知るあの落ち着いた態度へと素早く戻り、オリバーは思わず笑みを浮かべた。トレントも微笑み返すと、最近、次元の力を持ちだと主張する手強い相手との戦いを終えたばかりだったため、このような次元の裂け目が生じることは予想していたと説明した。トレントは、予期せず現れたことや、引き起こした損害について丁寧に謝罪し始めるが、突然、ジャッカルは何かを思いついたかのように言葉を遮った。彼は声に出して尋ねた。「でも、もし僕がポータルを通って送られたなら、一体どこに――」
トレントがそう問いかけた瞬間、パソコンの中から爪が飛び出し、トレントとオリバーを地面に押し倒した。トレントは怒りの声を上げ、素早く拳と魔法を使って、その生物をパソコンの中に押し戻そうとした。
先ほど戦っていた怪物が、彼を追ってこの次元までやって来たのだ！トレントは怪物がオリバーの部屋に入らないよう必死に防ぎながら、オリバーに「外へ、もっと安全な場所へ逃げろ」と叫ぶ。オリバーが「大丈夫か？」と尋ねると、トレントは「大丈夫だ」と答える。オリバーが家から飛び出すと、激しい戦いが始まる。怪物は先ほど割れた窓からすぐに飛び出し、トレントはそれを追ってオリバーの家から外へ飛び出さざるを得なかった。その生物とトレントは、どちらも身長が約180センチもあるため、穴をくぐり抜けるのがやっとだった。生物は窓に体を擦りむいて出血している。トレントは傷を負っていないが、誰にも危害が及ばないようにと決意しているようだ。数分間の格闘が続く中、そばに立っていたオリバーは、何よりもトレンが勝つことを願っていた。その時、オリバーは突然トレンに声をかけ、この問題を解決する方法が分かったと告げる。そして、その怪物は自分の部屋に入る前から痛みを感じていたのだと説明する。オリバーは、最初に手が自分を押し倒した時、シャツに血が付いたことから、最初から気づいていたと語る。さらに、魔法の治癒呪文を使えば、その生物を制圧できるかもしれないとトレントに提案する。その時、トレントはオリバーの言う通りだと気づき、その計画に同意する。トレントはオリバーの知性について粋な褒め言葉をかけ、オリバーを赤面させた。
治癒の呪文を唱えている最中、オリバーの両親が帰宅するが、オリバーは両親が車で近づいたり、怪物が潜む場所の近くを歩いたりしないように注意する以外、あまり気にかけていない。トレントは治癒の呪文を続けながら、オリバーに「両親に、絶対に近づかないように言ってくれ！」と叫ぶ。
もちろん、オリバーの両親は彼の言うことを聞かず、オリバーが深刻な危険にさらされているのではないかと心配して、オリバーと同じくらい近くまで近づいてくる。両親が背後から近づいてくる中、トレントはなんとかその生物の怒りを鎮め、オリバーを治癒し、その後、彼のデータは割れた窓からコンピュータへと戻っていった。今起きた一連の出来事に驚きから立ち直りつつ、トレントは謝罪の言葉を口にしながらオリバーの両親の方へ歩き出す。しかし「ごめんなさい」と言い終わる前に、オリバーは（トレントはオリバーより約15センチ背が高い）手を伸ばして彼の肩を抱き、怪我はないかと尋ねる。トレントはオリバーの気遣いに感謝し、全く大丈夫だと伝えると、オリバーはこう言った。
「よかった！助けてくれてありがとう。ママ、パパ、この人はトレント・ライダーさん、僕を守ってくれたんだ！」
English text
A high school boy named Oliver is going about his day happily. Things take a turn for the worse when his peer were bullying him. Oliver's self doubt, and also hiding in the closet, leads him to simply run away, busting out of the room.
After running to the far end of the hallway, Oliver takes a moment to lean on a locker and starts to cry, while also getting mad at himself for letting bullies get to him.
Oliver exits the school through the emergency door and runs home.
At home Oliver's parents haven't returned yet so he turns on his PC and relaxes with his favorite past time, playing his copy of the action rpg game "Burning Nekorobi," choosing to pick his favorite character, a teenage anthro canine named Trent. While watching Trent talk calmly and maturely to another character in the game, Oliver sighs and remarks how he wishes he could be like Trent. Oliver loves Trent because watching him gives him strength and inspires him, as someone who seems wise and courageous yet is also calm and caring. Suddenly, the computer monitor begins glowing in a strange way, and a window cracks in Oliver's room, making him look away. When he turns back, a pair of black ears are poking through the computer screen, that Oliver thinks he recognizes as Trent’s trademark ones. Quickly as Oliver trembles back from the computer, the rest of the figure emerges from the computer while floating, who Oliver definitely recognizes as Trent, although the jackal, canine appears to be asleep. The jackal opens his eyes and stares straight into Oliver's, asking where he is, and Oliver saying he's not sure what's going on, but Trent just came out of his computer that he was playing a video game on. Trent’s shock goes away, and he quickly returns to the calm demeanor that Oliver knows well from his game, making him smile. Trent smiles back, and explains that he expected some dimensional rift like this to have happened as he had recently finished a battle with a tough opponent who claimed to have dimensional powers. Trent begins to politely apologize for appearing unexpectedly and for any damages he caused, although suddenly the jackal is interrupted with a thought. He asks out loud, "but if I was sent through the portal then where-"
As Trent asks this, a claw comes out from the computer and pushes Trent and Oliver to the ground. Trent yells in anger and quickly uses his fists and magic to try and force the creature back into the computer. The creature he was fighting before had followed him to this dimension! As Trent tries his hardest to keep the creature from entering Oliver's room, he tells Oliver to run outside somewhere safer. Oliver asks him if he'll be ok to which Trent replies "I'll be alright." Oliver runs out of the house and a fight scene breaks out, Trent having to follow the creature out of Oliver's house as it immediately jumps through the previously broken window. The creature and Trent can barely fit through the hole, each being about 6 ft tall after all, so the creature cuts itself on the window and is bleeding. Trent doesn't get cut, and seems determined to prevent it from hurting anyone. After a few minutes of fighting, with Oliver standing nearby, and thinking about how he wants more than anything for Trent to win, Oliver suddenly calls out to Trent, informing the jackal canine he thinks he knows what can solve this, and that the creature had been in pain before it even entered his room. Oliver says he could tell from the start as when the hand shoved him down, he got some blood on his shirt. He also tells Trent that maybe they can subdue the creature with a magic healing spell. It's just then Trent realizes that Oliver's correct and agrees to the plan, with Trent also giving Oliver a suave compliment on his intellect, making him blush.
In the middle of the healing spell, Oliver's parents arrive home, but Oliver doesn't pay much attention besides trying to prevent them from driving or walking too close to wear the monster is. Trent continues to do the healing spell, and yells out to Trent to "please tell them to stay back!"
Oliver's parents of course, don't listen, as they get just as close as Oliver is, afraid that he's in serious danger. As Oliver's parents approach him from behind, Trent manages to overpower the creatures anger, heals him, and then his data returns through the broken window, into the computer. Coming down from the shock of everything that just happened, Trent starts to walk over to Oliver's parents beginning with an apology, but before he can even finish saying the words "I'm sorry," Oliver just reaches up (Trent is about half a foot taller than Oliver) and hugs his shoulders asking if he's hurt. Trent thanks Oliver for his concern, and says he's perfectly fine, to which Oliver says
"I'm glad! Thank you for saving me. Mom, dad, this is Trent Rider, he protected me!"
