The girl desperately tries to take photos of everything left in the bare classroom. Desks. Chairs. Blackboards. As if she were haunted of something, the girl repeatedly mashes the shutter.
Today was the last day of the school.
The graduation ceremony, which took place in the arena, was already over a hour ago.
After the ceremony, most students took off to hang out for the last time with their friends, going to a cafe or parks.
In spite of that, one girl stayed remained in the hollow school where there seemed to be no one except for her.
The girl's name was Maple.
After snapping about thirty photos of every single object in the class, Maple let out a little sigh. She was all done with the photos.
She sat on what used to be her seat, and gazed at the blackboard.
"I didn't realize middle school could end so quickly..." She let out a moan.
Then it caught her eye. She hadn't taken photos of the view from the window yet.
She rushed up to the window and prepared her camera.
Click. Click. Click.
"You REALLY do like photos, huh..."
Maple jumped up. She was too busy concentrated on her camera she didn't realize someone approaching her.
She looked back to find her classmate, Syrup looking at her amused.
"Uh..." Maple stuttered. "Why are you here? I thought you went with your friends already."
Syrup chuckled. "Forgot my shoes," she said as she pulled out her indoor shoes from her locker. "Though I didn't expect anyone to be back up here."
Maple laughed softly. Syrup was always leaving things behind everywhere.
"But," Syrup opened her mouth."I still don't feel like that I have graduated middle school... I still feel like I'm a part of this school. Don't you?"
Maple nodded. Being part of something for a long time makes you feel that is also part of your identity.
"Are your photos for keeping your memory?" Syrup asked.
"Yes, I want to make sure I won't forget them." A dark shadow fell over Maple's expression.
Syrup, not noticing her change, continued."Well, if by one chance you remember, could you send me those photos? I want them too!"
Maple smiled. "Sure, I'll send them as soon as I get home!"
Syrup smiled broadly. "Thanks! I gotta go, see you sometime!" She skipped out of the classroom, singing a little tune. Perhaps someone was waiting for her.
Left alone in the classroom, Maple spoke to herself in a low voice.
"Don't forget it... please don't..."
Packing up slowly, Maple looked outside the window.
Cherry petals were fluttering in the soft spring wind.
With that day, Maple Wright graduated middle school.
