混雑を避け、少女と連れの男が裏路地を歩いていた。
木箱には林檎の絵。軒先にはアロエの鉢。何か白いものが風に揺れている。
黒猫が横切ったので、少女は何気なく目で追った。
日陰に、男女がいた。
二人は口づけをしていた。
少女は慌てて前を向いた。
少し先を、連れの男が変わらない歩調で歩いている。
――見なかったのかしら。
少女は何も言わず、そのあとを追った。

To avoid the crowds, a girl and the man accompanying her took a narrow backstreet.
There was a picture of an apple on a wooden crate. A pot of aloe stood beneath the eaves. Something white stirred in the breeze.
A black cat crossed their path, and the girl idly followed it with her eyes.
In the shade stood a man and a woman.
They were kissing.
The girl quickly looked away.
A little way ahead, her companion continued walking at the same unhurried pace.
—I wonder if he didn't see them.
Without saying a word, the girl hurried after him.
Do you really suppose he didn't?
