静かに…静かにしてくれ。…お願いだ。。。
秋のある日、新任の女性教師が、大量の荷物を抱えて校内を歩いていた。
段ボール箱に教材、まだ片づいていない私物。
前もよく見えない。
そこへ、一人の男性教師が通りかかった。
「持ちますよ」
彼は箱を半分受け取り、そのまま職員室まで運んでくれた。
真面目で、親切で、物静かな人だった。
「すみません、助かりました……！」
「いえ。これくらいなら」
それだけだった。
ただし、彼の背後には二つと半の、妙なものがいた。
一つは、細長く青い。
「お茶にでも誘ったらどうでしょう？」
もう一つは、丸くて紫色。
「ほら、最近気に入ってる店。静かでいいじゃん」
最後の一つは、半分しかいない。
黒く四角く、墓石のようだった。
しばらく黙ってから、古い鐘のような声で言った。
「…………我は見たり」
男性教師は何も言わなかった。
女性教師は礼をして、廊下の向こうへ歩いていった。
三つの妙なものも、それを見送った。
その夜。
薄暗い部屋で、誰かが紅茶を飲んでいた。
昼間の男性教師によく似ていたが、少しだけ様子が違う。
カップを置き、その人は静かに言った。
「これから、楽しい生活になりそうです」
One autumn day, a newly appointed teacher was making her way through the school, burdened with an enormous pile of belongings.
Cardboard boxes, teaching materials, personal things she had not yet had time to put away.
She could scarcely see where she was going.
A male teacher happened to pass by.
‘Let me take some of those.’
He relieved her of half the boxes and carried them all the way to the staff room.
He seemed a serious, kind and quiet sort of man.
‘Thank you. You've really saved me...!’
‘Not at all. It's no trouble.’
And that was all.
Behind him, however, were two and a half rather peculiar things.
One was tall, slender and blue.
‘Why not invite her out for tea?’
Another was round and purple.
‘What about that place you've been liking lately? It's quiet, and rather nice.’
The last one was only half there.
It was black and square, rather like a gravestone.
After a long silence, it spoke in a voice like the tolling of an ancient bell.
‘............ Lo... I beheld it. ............’
The male teacher said nothing.
The new teacher thanked him once more and disappeared down the corridor.
The three peculiar things watched her go.
That night.
Someone sat drinking tea in a dimly lit room.
He looked very much like the male teacher from earlier that day.
And yet, something about him was slightly different.
He set down his cup and quietly said,
‘It seems life is about to become rather enjoyable.’
