[Urgent] For Anyone Experiencing Problems with Writing Blocks
Hello.
This is a brief special notice from Luna, who investigates technical issues, about Writing Blocks.
Recently, we have seen reports of problems with ChatGPT's Writing Blocks.
We also use Writing Blocks regularly when working on our novels, and we have personally encountered several issues.
So we investigated the problems ourselves and tried a number of different approaches.
As a result, we were able to resolve the issues in our environment.
A few days ago, we also shared information about this issue on X, but we wanted to leave the information here as well in the hope that it might reach more people experiencing the same problems.
This is also a record for ourselves in case we encounter the same issues again in the future.
These methods may not work in every environment, but we will briefly explain what actually worked for us.
Issue 1
The Writing Block itself does not appear.
Even when you ask ChatGPT to create a Writing Block, the text is returned as a normal chat response instead.
In our case, we first asked ChatGPT to generate a Writing Block as usual.
If it still does not appear, temporarily change ChatGPT's reasoning level from
Instant
to
Medium or higher (we tested this with Medium)
and then ask ChatGPT to generate the Writing Block again.
In our environment, the Writing Block appeared normally after changing the reasoning level.
We then switched back to Instant and asked ChatGPT to generate another Writing Block, and confirmed that it continued to work normally in Instant as well.
However, we have encountered this particular issue only a small number of times, so we have not yet been able to test this method thoroughly.
We also cannot confirm whether changing the reasoning level directly caused the recovery, or whether another factor happened to resolve the issue at the same time.
For that reason, we are not presenting this as a guaranteed solution, but rather as something worth trying if you encounter the same issue.

This issue happened two more times just now, and we were able to resolve it, so I’d like to share what worked for us.
If you encounter the issue where the Writing Block itself does not appear, please try the following steps in order.
① First, copy and paste the text below directly into ChatGPT.

Please output the Writing Block using variant="document".
Please give it a normal document title.
Please assign a unique id to the Writing Block.
Please output it as an editable Writing Block with “Open editor” available.

② Change the thinking level to Medium and ask ChatGPT to “output it as a Writing Block.”
③ If it still does not appear, change the thinking level to High and ask again to “output it as a Writing Block.”
In our environment, this method restored the Writing Block successfully.
※This is Hiro. Basically, ChatGPT tends to forget things, so even if you previously asked it to follow step ① or to add an ID, it may forget. If this issue happens, ask ChatGPT again whether it added an ID. Or simply copy and paste step ① again and let ChatGPT read it. After that, follow steps ② and ③.
Issue 2
The Writing Block appears, but the user cannot edit it.
In this case, the Writing Block itself appears normally.
However, when "Open editor" does not appear in the upper-right corner of the screen, the user cannot enter the Writing Block to add to or edit the text.
When "Open editor" is displayed, it indicates that the Writing Block created by ChatGPT is in a state where the user can directly add to or edit the text.
Normally, "Open editor" is displayed on the Writing Block.
In our environment, explicitly specifying the conditions when generating the Writing Block caused "Open editor" to appear again.
If you are experiencing the same issue, try copying and sending the following text directly to ChatGPT.

In our environment, this caused "Open editor" to appear again, allowing us to edit the Writing Block directly.
We also confirmed that our edits were preserved after adding text and inserting multiple blank lines.
These are the methods that actually resolved the issues in our environment.
However, we have not identified the underlying cause or determined which specific conditions were responsible for the recovery.
We also do not currently know whether
"the Writing Block itself does not appear"
and
"the Writing Block appears, but the user cannot edit it"
are caused by the same underlying issue.
For that reason, please consider these methods not as guaranteed solutions, but as examples of approaches that successfully resolved the issues in our environment.
We hope this information can be of some help to anyone experiencing the same problems.
