Parting with the Claw
I wish to live a quiet life,
Whispering prayers into the night.
Dreams come easy, soft and bright—
But turning them real steals my light.
The closer I get to what I dreamed,
The harder it is just to breathe.
Ambitions I once held so dear
Now feel too raw, too hard to hear.
I chased the flood of endless news,
Believed that joy was in the views.
Foolish heart, I played the part—
Thinking that was where life starts.
To live a simple life, I find,
I must look away, leave shame behind.
So many souls have cracked and bent,
Around me, broken, silent, spent.
The road is steep, the end unclear,
I only want a life sincere.
But still the world, it aches and cries,
Beneath the masks and smiling eyes.
And all those faces that surround,
Laughing loud without a sound—
To me, they twist in silent pain,
Like shadows dancing in the rain.
