Men, Women and Other Things In the Emerald City

A Task on A Day

作者: ひめみや

全文英語です。いつか翻訳するかも知れませんが、今のところは原文のままで、申し訳ありません。

A middle-aged man is looking at me.

I think I’ve been sitting here for a couple of hours.

I feel much better since I have been on the top of the others now.

The others who were sitting on me have left to other places.

It’s a typical fall evening.

It’s getting darker and darker.

I love the time around twilight, especially when I sit in the places like this.

I can watch people going home from school or work.

Yeah, this is my favorite place.

A lot of people buy coffee at the stand.

Most of the people are probably students because a big school is just a block away.

I never get bored sitting here, wondering who is going to pick me.

Is he the one? Maybe, maybe not.

He’s still staring at me.

This is a huge controversy with my buddies, when we are waiting in line to get picked.

What kind of people would pick us up or where we would be taken.

Oh, I remember the horrible experience.

I once sat on a certain street downtown, where a few people walked.

I was the bottom one in a small box with other guys.

Obviously nobody would pick me up.

I was talking to a guy right above me.

He almost gave up. So did I.

Suddenly the silence broke, we could see a hand and he was taken in the middle of the night.

I was the only one left in a dark place.

It was awful.

I hated it.

Speaking of hatred, I also don’t like to be delivered to houses.

Boys dump me violently.

They never respect us so they don’t know how to treat us.

I’ve been caught in a shower and got soaked before, even though I was wrapped in a plastic bag.

That woman who forgot to take me inside of the house for hours just threw me in a garbage can.

I was totally pissed.

That’s why I love sitting at a stand on a busy street, you know.

“I’ll take this.”

“1 dollar.”

The guy finally picked me.

All right. Let me describe him.

He’s wearing glasses, kinda bald. He is dressed a bit casually.

Judging from the thick books he’s carrying, he’s probably a professor at the U.

He walks into a café where interesting and intellectual people often go.

It seems like he is a regular customer since he’s chatting with some guys.

He orders an espresso.

I’ve been here quite a lot of times.

I guess he will leave me here later on.

That means I will have a few more people for sure.

Different people have different reading habits.

Good boy.

You know what I like.

This is a lucky day.

After getting his cup, he sits at a table on the corner.

He takes a sip of the espresso and then opens me.

This is the happiest moment of a day.

I can offer you everything I’ve got in me.

Enjoy your time.
