第84話 猛の決意
「My name is Takeshi Morimoto. I believe in the motto "life is for enjoying." I was born to change the world. It sounds like a typical middle schooler, but it's much more fun to believe you can change the world than to believe you can't change anything on your own. So I decided to take the Test of English for International Communication, commonly known as TONIC. The test, worth 250 points each for reading, listening, writing, and speaking, is a total of 1,000 points, and is apparently an official test that can be included on a resume.Well, I don't really care about resumes, but it's cool to be able to speak English, so it wouldn't hurt to have one.(俺の名は森本猛。"life is for enjoying"を信条としている男。俺は世界を変えるために生まれてきた。こう言うといかにも中二病チックだが、自分の力じゃ世の中何も変わらないと思っているよりも、自分が世界を変えられると思っていた方がはるかに楽しい。そんな俺は、国際コミュニケーション英語能力テスト、通称TONICを受験しようと思った。リーディング、リスニング、ライティング、スピーキング各250点、合計1000点のこのテストは履歴書に書くこともできる正式なテストだという。まあ、俺にとっちゃ履歴書とかどうでも良いが、英語を話せたら格好良いし取っておいて損はないだろう。)」
森本猛は自宅の部屋で勉強をしながら呟いた。
普段から格好良いと思った単語の説明を英語で行う練習をしているのと元来の彼の才能が相まって、スピーキングのレベルは上達していた。
「The problem is reading and grammar. I've always hated it, but maybe I should read a grammar book.(問題はリーディングや文法だな。今まで嫌っていたけど、文法書でも読むか。)」
彼は学校から配布されていた文法書に手を伸ばした。
これが、森本猛という生徒が勉強に興味を持つ最初のきっかけとなるのだった。
