Ⅷ Divine Words from Conversations with God
68/74

3-1 “Love Is Without Condition, Without Limitation, and Without Need”

3-1 “Love Is Without Condition, Without Limitation, and Without Need”

--------------------

> God: You do not understand what love is.

>

> Neale: What is it?

>

> God: It is that which is without condition, without limitation, and without need.

>

> Because it is without condition, it requires nothing in order to be expressed. It asks nothing in return. It withdraws nothing in retaliation.

>

> Because it is without limitation, it places no limitation on another. It knows no ending, but goes on forever. It experiences no boundary or barrier.

>

> Because it is without need, it seeks to take nothing not freely given. It seeks to hold nothing not wishing to be held. It seeks to give nothing not joyously welcomed.

>

> And it is free. Love is that which is free, for freedom is the essence of what God is, and love is God, expressed.

>

> (Friendship with God Chapter 7)

--------------------

Love is the tender energy that flows between two beings who truly see each other.

It is a silent recognition of the divine spark within both, a gentle exchange that asks for no promise, no possession, no guarantee.

Every human being is unique, and so the forms of human relationship are infinite.

Among them, love reveals itself in countless ways — as affection, friendship, devotion, or compassion — yet its essence remains one and the same.

*Conversations with God* reminds us that love and need are not the same.

Need arises from the belief that something essential to our happiness exists outside ourselves.

But genuine love does not depend on need.

We may love someone and also feel we need them — yet if we love *because* we need, our affection is not for the person themselves, but for what they provide.

True love is different.

It is to love another soul simply for who they are —whether they give or withhold, stay or depart —for love, in its highest form, is free.
