> So long as you are still worried about what others think of you, you are owned by them.
> Only when you require no approval from outside yourself can you own yourself.

> It is only through the exercise of the greatest freedom that the greatest growth is achieved—or even possible.
> If all you are doing is following someone else’s rules, then you have not grown, you have obeyed.

In *Conversations with God*, we are reminded that when we constantly worry about how others see us, we end up living their lives, not our own.
Ignoring others completely, however, is not the answer—doing so would mean missing the sacred opportunity to experience divinity through our relationships.
Yet when we care too much about being liked or accepted, our thoughts and choices begin to reflect others’ expectations rather than our own truth.
That is when we start walking someone else’s path instead of living the life our soul intended.
