4. An Interesting Point of Agreement — *“The Bible Has Been Greatly Distorted from Its Originals”*
Both *Conversations with God* and *The Matthew Books* share the view that the present-day Christian “Bible” does not faithfully transmit what Christ originally taught. They emphasize that, through repeated compilation and editing, the text was altered to serve the convenience of those in power at the time.

**From *Conversations with God* (Book 1, p.93):**
Most of the writers of the New Testament had never seen the living Christ, nor had they ever met him. Many of them were born years after Jesus had already left the Earth. Even if they had passed him on the street in Nazareth, they would not have recognized him.
The biblical writers were devoted believers and diligent historians. They recorded the stories that had been told to them or to their friends — stories passed down orally from elder to elder until they were eventually written.
Yet not everything the writers knew was preserved in the completed scriptures.
By the time the church had begun to form around the teachings of Jesus, as is always the case when powerful teachings draw followers, there were already individuals within the church who decided which parts of Jesus’ story should be told, and how they should be told. This process of selection and editing continued all the way until the gospels and the Bible were compiled, written down, and published.
Even centuries after the original scriptures were composed, Catholic councils determined which doctrines and truths would be included in the officially recognized Bible. They also decided which teachings were “unhealthy” or “premature,” and therefore should not be revealed to the public.

**From *Matthew Book 1: The Truth of Heaven* (p.178, abridged):**
Compared with the earliest versions, the present-day Bible has had much deleted, rewritten, and revised with each successive edition. The originals looked nothing like the present version, and in many places the very same passage appears with entirely different content across various editions. Explicit references to reincarnation and the soul’s repeated rebirths for spiritual growth were all removed.
Such alterations were carried out by a small group of people who possessed both the authority and the influence to change the texts. Their aim was to strengthen and consolidate their control.
