2. What the Matthew Books Are

The Matthew Books are a series written by American author Suzanne Ward, in which she records her communications with the spirit of her son, Matthew Ward, who passed away at a young age. These books recount their afterlife dialogues and convey the messages Matthew shared from the spiritual realm.

In Japan, the series is published by Natural Spirit and consists of four volumes:

The Truth of Heaven (Matthew Book 1)

Revelations for a New Age (Matthew Book 2)

The Brilliance of the New Age (Matthew Book 3)

Special volume: The Spiritual Truths of Modern Society

Below are excerpts from the foreword and part of the table of contents of the first volume, Matthew Book 1: The Truth of Heaven (Japanese edition published in December 2009).

[Foreword]

This book is the first in the four-volume Matthew Book series. It presents, word for word, the initial conversations that began in January 1994—about fourteen years after Matthew’s passing at age 17 in a traffic accident—when he first began speaking with me. The later volumes gather not only Matthew’s further messages, but also communications from many other beings in higher realms beyond Earth.

Having been a Christian for thirty-five years, I was at first astonished when my son began to speak to me. His words were entirely different from what I had been taught to believe.

And yet, I was deeply drawn to this knowledge, which far surpassed anything I had previously encountered. Gradually, I came to feel—deep within—that what I was receiving was truth. If you, the reader, feel a similar recognition as you read, it may be because, as Matthew explained, you are hearing the voice of your own soul: the voice of truth.

All of these communications are shared with the hope of guiding, teaching, and uplifting us during this unprecedented era of profound change. Indeed, we live in extraordinary times.

Summary — What the Matthew Books Are

The Matthew Books, written by Suzanne Ward, record her spirit-communications with her son Matthew Ward, who died at 17. The series—published in Japan by Natural Spirit—comprises four volumes (including a special volume on modern spiritual truths).

The first volume, Matthew Book 1: The Truth of Heaven (Japanese edition, Dec 2009), reproduces the initial dialogues that began in January 1994 and situates them as the opening of a larger body of messages from Matthew and other higher-realm beings. Ward, formerly a long-time Christian, found these communications unexpectedly transformative and came to regard them as a deep spiritual truth; readers who resonate with the text may feel they are hearing their own soul’s voice. The books aim to guide and uplift readers during a time of profound change.
