Silent Murderer
"They became so fast suddenly. What’s going on?"
"Maybe Suguru Anzai cannot wait anymore. He’s going to kill us all now."
But, why now?
After saying that myself, I began to wonder.
"I cannot…"
"Hey, Shūhei. Minami is going to collapse."
As Shōta ran, he looked at Minami, who looked pale.
"Let's hide somewhere. No, it would be conspicuous if all three of us hid at the same time. Let's get Minami out of here at least."
"I agree."
With that, I turned my back for a moment and tugged on Minami's hand. Meanwhile, Shōta increased his running speed and waited at the end of the hallway.
"Hey, let's get Minami inside here!"
"Minami, you hide in there. Never go outside. We will come back and pick you up later."
I turned at the end of the hall and immediately saw Shōta opening the door to the classroom next door on my right.
I pushed Minami into the room without slowing down. Shortly after, Shōta closed the classroom door and followed me.
"Good, they are following us."
I turned around and saw two clones coming toward me without even breaking a sweat.
I regularly look back to make sure not make the same mistake as Kazuhiro and Keisuke earlier.
"But with the way things are going, we're going to run out of stamina before they do."
"Then what do we do? We fight?"
"If we can at least hold them up."
"But this time, they're ready to kill you, so it’s hard to get close to them."
"Shōta, don’t you have something that can be used as a weapon?"
"No, I don’t. I'm more of a bare-knuckle fighter."
"Huff, I’m also getting close to my limit."
"Same here."
Shōta finally started breathing from his shoulders.
"Then let's keep going in and out of the classroom. If there is a chance, rearrange the chairs and desks to obstruct the opponent. But if we stumble before that, it's the end of the world."
"A gamble huh? Then I'll lead the way and you disturb those guys behind me. I'm going in that room over there in front!"
Shōta pointed to the classroom where we had a social studies class in the first year of high school.
"Okay."
"Here we go!"
Shōta opened the classroom door and pushed his hand over the neatly arranged desks in a straight line.
Behind him, I carelessly placed the desk he'd moved, blocking our path.
"All right, let's keep going!"
Shōta, perhaps seeing his chance to win, suddenly increased his running speed and was soon inside the classroom again.
I was supposed to be doing my best just to keep up with him, but when I remind myself that if I stopped, I would die, somehow my legs felt lighter, not heavier.
"Yes, next is that room!"
"Okay!"
When I looked behind, I saw that I was about 20 meters behind the clones earlier, but now they seemed to have moved away to about 50 meters.
Perhaps it was because we were repeating the same actions over and over again, I felt as if we were no longer wasting our time and acting effectively. It was just like a robot.
Soon as I zigzagged desks and was about to walk out, the entrance door opened. But what entered was a single clone.
I shouted to Shōta.
"Don’t open!"
Just as Shōta puts his hand on the exit door, the door opens and another clone enters.
"Damn. We got sandwiched!"
I was reminded that we were not the only ones who had become accustomed to this movement after doing the same thing over and over again.
