Day 1 - The Lake
Again, sorry that this is all in English
Chapter 3
I stretched out my legs and walked a few steps, just to make sure I was truly alive again. The grass certainly felt real. The air certainly smelled real. The vast landscape around me certainly looked real. I laughed to myself a bit at the ridiculousness of the situation. I noticed that my clothing was automatically changed to the style of Fullbahm. Though more specifically, it looked like it was from Pelote, the largest country of the western continent. I must be somewhere in Pelote if Tezuka wanted me to fit in. I ran forward towards a small hill, to better look at my surroundings. No use. Everything looks the same.
Pelote was a very flat country. Known for its fertile land, it rose to power through agriculture, providing food to nearly 3/4ths of the world’s population. Since Pelote was mostly flat farmland, I could not figure out where I was. However, I did spot a road nearby that seemed well traveled. I decided to follow it.
After an hour of walking there were a few things that became clear. I don’t have any powers. I tried the usual beginner level incantations I made up for the mages of this world, but nothing happened. I tried sprinting but quickly ran out of breath. I tried lifting a large boulder but couldn’t. It doesn’t seem like I have any body enhancements or gifts. I guess I’m just a normal person. Well. An abnormal reincarnated person.
Another hour passed and I finally found other living beings. It was a family of merchants in their buggy. I waved them down. I froze a bit, with a sudden realization that I had to speak Pelotian for the first time. It shouldn’t be a problem, I did create the language from scratch after all. But it still feels weird speaking to another being for the first time.
“Hello! I was just wondering how much farther it is to the city.” I asked. I was purposely ambiguous because I didn’t know which city I was aimlessly walking towards.
“Oh? It’s about 5 yu from Jakkani. Where did you walk from? It’s at least 50 yu from the nearest town on this road.” The driver of the carriage, whom I assume to be the mother, said.
I immediately knew where I was now. Jakkani was a medium sized town in the southern half of Pelote. It was pretty remote, having just been built in this previously uninhabited region. It was made as a resting stop for anyone trying to get to the southern sea directly from the capital.
“Thank you and safe travels.” I replied as I turned to walk away. I purposely didn’t answer her question. I didn’t have any provisions or belongings and therefore didn’t know how to explain the 50 yu trip, which should take 5 days by walking, to her.
“Wait a sec, here!” shouted a man from the carriage. The father’s head popped out from behind the drapes, and he tossed me a loaf of bread. “You look hungry”
I said thank you again and instinctively bowed. I could hear laughing coming from the carriage as they drove off.
I decided to take a break and forage some stuff. I didn’t have any money which would be a problem going into Jakkani, and foraging would provide something for me to sell once I got there.
I wandered a bit off the path towards the north. I knew there was a lake nearby which Jakkani uses as their water source. It also happens to grow a common medicinal herb there. Funny, I thought to myself, collecting this herb was the first quest I had Hiro go on. Although it wasn’t in Pelote.
Half an hour of walking and I could see the edges of the lake on the horizon. It shimmered under the sunlight and a light breeze blew ripples across it. The lake was more beautiful than what I imagined in my head. I ate the bread the family had given me and lied down near the coast, soaking up the sun. I thought I would take a quick nap before foraging for the herb.
