「かわいそうだけど、あんたたちは抽選で餓鬼になったんだから」
"I'm sorry, but you guys became preta in the lottery."
アマネはついうっかりと秘密を漏らしてしまった。
She let the cat out of the bag.
「抽選と言いましたか？」
"Did you say lottery now?"
私は冷静に尋ねた。
As much as possible I asked calmly.
「しまった！」彼女は明らかに動揺した。
"Oh shit! " She was clearly upset.
「まあいいか。どうせバレることだし。あんたたち死んだときクジ引きしたでしょ？」
"Well, I'm sure it's all come out in the wash. Didn't you draw a lottery when you died?"
アマネが我々に尋ねた。
Amane asked us.
「クジ引きならしましたが、それが何か？」
"I did draw a lottery, but what is that?"
「何色のクジがでた？」
"What color card came out?"
「茶色でした」「茶色」「私も茶色」
"I drew a brown card." "I was also a card of the same color." "Me too."
我々はアマネに答えた。
We answered Amane.
「そうでしょ。それが餓鬼の当たりクジだったんよ。約500分の1の確率ね。餓鬼は9千人だから」
"Yeah. After death, the probability of becoming a preta in a lottery is 1/500. There are a total of 9,000 pretas."
「なんてこった！」私は彼女の言葉に激しく驚いた。
" Oh my God! That's incredible!!" I was very surprised at her words.
「ついでに言うと、私はピンクだったので天女ね。なんと10000分の1の確率」アマネは続けてそう言った。

「つまり、我々が餓鬼なのも、あなた様が天女なのもクジだったというわけですか？」

「大天女様が言いました。日本人はみんな飽食してるし、それなりに良い人達だから、簡単に決めらから抽選にしたらしいよ」アマネが分かりやすく言った。

その言葉を聞いて私の血圧が上がった。
My blood pressure rose to hear that.
「誤解しないでね。ルールを決めたのは大天女様じゃなくて、昔の偉いお坊さんたちだったみたい」アマネは綿アメをなめながら言った。
"Let me be clear. It seems that the rules was not decided by queen of celestial maiden, but wise ancient monks did it." She said calmly while eating cotton candy.
ついに私たちは激怒した。
Finally, we were furious.
「どこのくそ坊主だ。こんなふざけたルールを思いついたのは！ 私も坊主だったがそんなバカなルールは聞いたことがないぞ・・・ケロケロケロ」
"Where is the fucking monk who decided such a playful rule? I was also a monk in my lifetime, but I've never heard of such a stupid rule…ribbit!"
「食べられないし、裸だし、なのにあんただけ良い着物着て。納得できない・・・ケロケロ」
"I can't eat it, I'm naked, but you wear a fine kimono. I can't be convinced… ribbit."
「しかも俺らの前で、綿菓子食べるな・・・ケロケロ」
"Don't eat a cotton candy in front of us. Stupid celestial maiden… ribbit."
私たちは同時に不思議な力によってカエルにされた。
We were transformed into frogs at the same time by mysterious power.
「私がやったんじゃないわよ」アマネが言い訳した。
"I didn't do it," Amane made an excuse.
「私は役目、はたしたしー」アマネは逃げた。
"Well, I'm back because I've played a role." She rushed home.
「やってられないなあ」プンプンが言った。
"Fuck it!"Punpun said.
「えーん、餓鬼やだよー」ピッピが泣いた。
"AAAAAA! I hate pretas"Pippi cried.
だが、私はその時、別の事を考えていた。
But I was thinking about something else at that time.
「なあプンプン、アマネは餓鬼が500分の1の確率で9千人だって言ってたな」
"Hey PunPun, Amane said that there is a 1/500 chance that there are 9,000 pretas."
「それがどうした。大勢の運の悪いやつがいるということだろ！」
"So what? It’s just there are a lot of unlucky guys."
「いや、そういう意味じゃない。君は日本人の死者が年間何人か知ってるか？」
" I didn't mean it that way. Do you know how many people die in Japan each year?"
「知るかよ」
"Who knows? "
「私の記憶ではそれは約150万人だったはず。もしそうなら、死者の500分の1は3000人になる。」（正確には、2019年には1376,000人）
"In my memory, that was about 1.5 million people.If so, 1/500 of the dead would be 3000 people." （To be exact, 1376,000 people in 2019）
「何が言いたいんだ？」
"What do you want to say?"
「つまり餓鬼の総数が9,000人で、年間3,000人の新規参入者が加わるということは、餓鬼の任期が3年ということになる。違うか？」
"In other words, the total number of pretas is 9,000, and the addition of 3,000 newcomers a year means that the term of pretas is three years. Is that different?"
「そう言えばそうだな」
"You're right."
「もしそうなら、私の任期は2年と3ヶ月ということになる」私は言った。
"If so, my term will be two years and three months." I said.
「その計算だと俺は2年半だ！」プンプンが言った。
"By that calculation, my term is two years and six months!" PunPun shouted.
「ヒーン、私は2年9カ月もあるよー」ピッピが嘆いた。
"AAAAAA! In my case, it last two years and nine months more! " Pippi lamented.
とはいえ、なんとなく希望が見えてきた俺達は、すっとぼけたアマネに少し感謝した。
Anyway, we somehow found hope, and we thanked the silly celestial maiden a little.
