I’m now at the center of the [Reach village]. When I asked an obaasan about who to speak to in the village, she said to come here and speak to the girl with freckles. And here I am speaking to this Scottish cutie that looks like she jumped out of a D*sney princess movie [AN: You all forgot about the Brave movie, didn’t ya?]
She had just explained to me that the village is too small to have the Chief’s house and the Adventurer Guild in separate buildings. She’s also the Chief’s daughter and fills the role of Receptionist for the Guild and the Chief: a strong girl with fiery, frizzy hair.
“So is adventuring the only way to make a living?” (Jin)
“Not really, folks still need to eat. Some adventurers also hunt game in the forest and they might bring some fruits and nuts with them if they’re feeling kind.” (Receptionist)
“Where do the adventurers sleep?” (Jin)
“They rent a room from the locales or live with family. Some even build their own homes if they marry a girl and plant their roots here. The seeds too.” (Receptionist)
“I hear ya.” (Jin)
So she clearly likes me and is giving me the sweet treatment. As she has to stand here at the Reception desk all day to process quests or answer to her old man, she seems rather happy to flirt with an outsider, just for kicks. It helps me that she’s being generous with information - I don’t have anything to pay for it so I’m relying on my pretty face that’s gotten me out of similar binds before.
Talking to her has led me to believe that this Reach is like a European settlement before the privatizing of Common lands. But there seems to be no practice of animal husbandry or farming or even trading with other villages. They really almost completely on the dungeon and wildlife and there seems to be travel between settlements but I don’t see much trade. Is there even a lord of the land?
“So what kingdom is Reach in?” (Jin)
“? Ah! We don’t have a king ya know. It’s just this sticks out here.” (Receptionist)
“That’s rare…” (Jin)
“It’s not, Niisan. This is common, common. Like I said, every place Humans live in has a dungeon. That’s not because we like it but we have to. Leave a dungeon alone and soon a [Goblin Lord] or [Orc Warrior] is leading hordes just to toss ya wife and old biddy.”
“! Not the grannies too!?” (Jin)
“The guilds have learnt that for monsters, ‘If they have hair down low, it’s walking grounds’.” (Receptionist)
“Uwaah…” (Jin)
“That’s why we dive into the dungeon and trade the parts of the monsters, use the parts in any way we can. There are already places that people were chased out of by monsters. Where dragons and Unicorns have made their nests.”
Even the Unicorns are a threat…!? I may have been underestimating this World. The adventurers aren’t kind-spirited, the monsters are a real threat and even the political maps of the world are governed not by kings and popes, but by the monsters and those that hunt them.
I have to explore it! The dungeons and this world!!
“So, how are you gonna make it up to me, Niisan?”
… I guess fair trade is the same in any world.

"Okay, let's dive a little more!" (Jin)
After borrowing equipment from Anne, the Receptionist, I dove into the [Bug Burrow] Dungeon just outside of the Village. Apparently, it’s a beginner dungeon in which a break room (stairs) is found between each floor, allowing adventurers to rest and not fear a monster attack. It seems that under normal circumstances, we don’t have to worry about monsters moving between floors unless they eat each other or humans. This difference has something to do with their [Existence] and if major changes in their existence happen, a [Mutant] is born.
I’m currently on a high from clearing the 1st floor and am heading down the stairs (break room) to the second floor. I’ll rest after I’ve taken a peek. The first floor had [Horse Flies] the size of Beagles buzzing around. Thanks to the twin Maces Anne borrowed me, they were easy to finish off as long as I stay near the entrance and limit their room of attack ranges. I’ll bring up their bashed-up corpses later.

As a cute sound rings just under my chin, a cold and weighty feeling of steel has collars my neck. What’s going on?

“Tsk, tsk. You can’t speak when Your master hasn’t told You told. That’s like, the basics ya know~!” (??)

"Have ya relaxed…? Well, this disgusting collar still works like a charm~. A soul-binding one though.” (??)
What!? Kuso, I gotta find some way to reject this thing before it’s too late! How can one accessory forces someone against their will if they wear it..? Is it, a [Magic Item]? Kuso!
"Oh, don’t worry. I only said You can’t speak unless I say it’s okay so You’re still good!” (??)

"Now, You can't do anything without me. So~, say thank your thanks for being found by such a loving master. Ah, turn around so You can see me and say it to my face… Geez, you’re quite the looker aren’t ya! Glad I got you first before the girls did! (??)

…!! The hits just keep on coming. I’m not even surprised at how she knows I’m from a different world.
"Umu, being rebellious shows that it’s still you being you and the collar hasn’t changed you. That’s great~! It’ll be even better once you get used to it because I’ll never let you go~!” (??)
She says while coiling her slender body around my arm. Are the women in this world such predators? Scary!
