思い残すことも無く。
提言した事などない、
期待に応えた事もなく、
私の居場所がある筈もない
あなたの心に。立ち去ろう、自由にしてあげる。

降参！するから、そっちも譲って？
と何だか煽り返す炎みたいだったと。
魂固く鎖されつつも、鍵を求め、
緩めることもあったのかな。私が同じになったものと
あなたの目に見え、私にはあなたがそう見えるように。変な言い訳！
Conceded! In turn, concede to me,
Such things have been as a mutual flame.

それじゃ一体、私にとって何が問題？
私が一方的に不利な立場とでも？

それよりもう少し、夢想に耽らせて頂戴。

物凄く変だったかも、私のすべてがあなたに有ったら、
なにしろ私の心と頭はあなたでいっぱいだったから、

変ね、あなたが私の顔とか考えたら、

結局は自分を見て「彼女だ！」と叫ぶとか。

あなたならやる、するに違いない、私を記すに
愛の人生だった、人生が愛だったと。
息をするのもあなたの唇次第、
我慢できなさ加減もあなたの予想通りと、
有頂天で落ちる先はあなたの足を差し出すところに。

だけど1度もあったかしら、そんなに私を愛して下さるとか
言葉に、或いは表情に出したことなんて。
あなたの言葉と視線は彷徨い、落ち着かず
私の周りをくるくる回ってばかり、生きている間ずっと、……
これで想像できますか「私が感じるように、彼はかく感じる」と？

ちょっと、あなた消えようとしてるの、私みたいなものに、
あなた髪までこんなゴワゴワした髪束になって、
あなたの肌、この節くれだった木の樹皮……、
私を変身させるんじゃないの！……これで私に察しろと
いつ私は喜びのあまり死んだら良いの、ジェームズ・リー？

2.mutual flame：William Shakespeare "The Phoenix and Turtle"（不死鳥と雉鳩）から引用。常套句として18世紀に流行したが、1820年迄には終わっていた。本節には他にも影響が見られる(W & K)。
3.pea and pea：pea は「グリーンピース」として知られる豆の単数形、すなわちえんどう豆をいう。しかし「豆と豆」では意味不明なので意訳。
4.from over the sea!："Time's Revenges" の一節
6.A tenure of breath at your lips’ decree,：以下、簡明な言葉遣いでR18を避けつつ熱情を表現している点は見習うべきであろう。その分、訳が面倒で仕方ないが。
7.come in:専ら「入る」と訳すが、「（顔に）出る」の意味でも使われる。
You might turn myself!："The Grove"に名前だけ出てきたオウィディウスの『変身物語』を想起させる。恋した男に追いかけられた女が草木に変わったとか。
