I.窓辺に語るジェイムズ・リーの妻—James Lee’s Wife Speaks at the Window
本作は当初 " James Lee " として発表されたが、全編をその妻が語る形にしたからか、後に改められた。9篇から成る連詩として構成され、女性に語らせる Dramatic Monologue としては最長の作品。
特に説明はされていないが、以下3番目の The worst of it に至るまで、ブリュターニュの同じ場所を舞台にしたものらしい。

おお愛する人よ、何という日
この世界が変わってしまった！
陽は他所へ去り、
鳥はよそよそしくなった。
風はぱったり止んでしまった、
空模様は狂ってきた
夏がすっぱり消えてしまった。
AH, Love, but a day
And the world has changed!
The sun’s away,
And the bird estranged;
The wind has dropped,
And the sky’s deranged
Summer has stopped.
II.
この目を見て、ほら！
貴方もまた変わってしまうの？
恐れ慄くしかないかしら？
探そう新しく有るべきものを
歳経た懐かしい物の中に、
真にして優れた中に、
移り変わりゆく年くる年に？
Look in my eyes!
Wilt thou change too?
Should I fear surprise?
Shall I find aught new
In the old and dear,
In the good and true,
With the changing year?

貴方は男性、
私は恋人。
湖上に白鳥、
谷間に野鳩。
貴方に…（ちょっと、早く！）
私、反り上がる
私から、ぎゅうとしがみつく。
