Vietnam Sees Criminal Networks Selling Newborns and Human Organs via Social Media
There have been many cases of human trafficking in Vietnam. The victims include not only women and children, but also situations such as the trading of infants, human organs, and surrogacy.
Many criminal gangs trade human beings and human organs through social networks. These gangs deceive the victims by promising them "easy and high-paying jobs".
After that, the victims are forced to engage in various illegal activities. They are made to work in massage parlors, karaoke bars, restaurants, cafes, and barbershops. They are coerced into signing debt documents and are even forced into prostitution or sexual activities to repay the so-called "recruitment fees". In addition, the victims are tricked into going abroad through cross-border travel or under the guise of tourism, and then they are trafficked to online gambling venues, the massage service industry, karaoke establishments involved in pornographic services, and are forced into prostitution or forced labor. Their entire savings are also confiscated.
Some cases are only discovered after the victims manage to escape and report them. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain evidence, and it is also challenging to prove the criminal acts. It is also difficult to determine the "illegal profits" generated by criminal activities because this is an agreement between the buyers and sellers, and in many cases, the victims are not even aware that they are being bought and sold.
On the other hand, most of the victims are ordinary workers with a low level of education. They often change their places of residence and lack the understanding and judgment of the criminals' tricks. Female victims who are abducted and sold abroad for the purpose of prostitution or sexual exploitation mostly suffer from low self-esteem and are afraid of social discrimination. After fleeing back to their home country, they dare not accuse or report the crimes, which has led to the increasing arrogance of the criminals.
