prologue part 2
Where am I? What's going on?
These are the first questions that comes to mind as Josephine's regains consciousness. But these are quickly pushed to the side the minute she tries to move.
What the heck? I can't move my body. Why can't I move my body?
Quickly Josephine realized something was wrong and attempts to yell in the hopes of getting help. But this too is to no avail, for she could not even scream.
My mouth. It won't move.
Though preoccupied, the sound of people talking grabbed her attention. Thinking that if she listens she might get answers, Josephine focused his hearing.
So, did any inmates survive?
Yes Mr. Richards, while all the others died after carbonation, these 2 survived the process.
Josephine heard to voices. A mature one and a high pitched one.
The tricksters? I had a hunch they might. These types of humans are stronger then the average man.
The two men approached Josephine. One was a chubby man with balding hair and the other was a young man in his mid twenties dressed in a suit and was very tall.
He had blue eyes and black short hair. He gave off an intimidating presence and just looking at him you knew he was not a man you push around.
Though I'm surprised Crackshot survived with all those scars. Then again she survived worse if half the stories I heard about her are true.
They're biology is remarkable. The blood sample we took prior to carbonation showed that they have unique blood cells that helps them take more physical trauma the the average individual.
The staff here have dubbed them trick cells. And taking more damage is not the only use for them.
It even extends their lifespan beyond normal. Gotta say trickster biology is pretty damn amazing.
They'll give us an award for this.
Keep your award doctor for I have no use for it. I just want to know if we can replicate the results of carbonation on a non-trickster.
Well, about that. We have tried injecting trick cells on the normal inmates you provided for us and the cells kill the host within minutes.
What!? How does that happen?
They killed all the inmates who weren't tricksters!? Those monsters! Everyone at the prayer group were reformed criminals about to be let go on probation. All of them are dead. Why? Dang it! If only I could move.
Josephine was angry and desperately trying to get free but to no avail. She could only watch.
The DNA change is too fast for an adult body to handle. You would have to be born with trick cells in order for you to become a trickster.
However, one inmate hasn't died yet. Apparently his body adapted to the changes but hasn't developed any powers.
After careful study we found it was because of his healthy eating habits and strong immune system.
And after freezing him in carbonate he's still alive.
So it CAN be done. Good, cause for a second I thought I would have to kill ya.
What? You were going to kill me?
Relax pal, your fine, unlike the rest of your predecessors you got results and I always take care of those that get results. Not like the previous scientists who all told me to make peace.
I thought you fired them?
I did. I poured oil on them, lit a match and fired them.
The scientist had a worried expression but quickly put a smile on to avoid his displeasure at the fact his former colleages were burned to death
I see sir. Well then, I'll get back to my research.
You do that doctor.
The doctor runs away, not even hiding his fear as Mr. Richards walks up toward Josephine, fixing his tie and looking at her with disdain.
Can you hear me crackshot? I would assume so since your most likely still alive. Your probably wondering why is this happening?
First off let me introduce myself. I am Thomas Richards and I run one of the most powerful businesses in the world called T-corp.
I'm sure you heard some of what we said so you probably have an idea why this happened. But I want you to know this wasn't personal. It's just business.
You and your friend were the only 2 tricksters in prison that nobody would have missed and I needed tricksters for my research in order to save my life.
You see I have tuberculosis. I got maybe 3 years left if I take care of myself. But with your blood and my technology I will overcome my fate.
By injecting you're cells into my body I can survive and reject fate. But the process will take time and that is a luxury I don't have. So I'm also developing a way to freeze a human body until the process has been perfected.
So another rich A-hole trying to extend his life. Why am I not surprised?
You should feel honored, You spent your entire life killing for the sake of a fight and now your blood will save humanity's savior. I will bring about a new era in the human race's next chapter.
Course I'm sure you don't care about any of that. You just want to know what happens to you. Well there's a funny story about that.
What the heck's he talking about?
I can't exactly let you go since you know everything. So I thought of a solution that is perfect.
Your biology is so unique and we could learn so much from it besides perfecting carbonation.
There is much benefit in keeping you alive so You and your friend will live don't worry about that.
But I can't just leave you here you're taking up space in the lab.
So I decided to put you up as wall decor in my office.
ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!? He can't be serious.
It's hilarious, the biggest mass murderer in human history is reduced to a mural on my wall. And the best part is no one will know.
I can see it now, whenever I show off this mural only I will know that the real Crackshot Jones is trapped in there. It'll be the biggest inside joke in history.
As for your little friend, I'll move him somewhere else. If by some possibility one of you were to escape at least it would be just that, only one. We'd still have another test subject.
Jess! Keep your hands off her! Come on body, MOVE!
I can only imagine how it feels. Oh no, not my little buddy. HAHA.
Oh, but your probably wondering how to undo the carbonation? Well you know what against all rational logic I'll tell you.
To undo the carbonation... All you have to do....is...Kiss my ass!
And with that he breaks out in laughter mocking Joseph.
Did you honestly think I would tell you? What kind of idiot do you take me for? If you knew, there will be a possibility you could escape and I'm not some storybook villain that just tells the hero how to defeat me. I'm a business man.
Unbeknownst to Thomas, Josephine's attention was elsewhere. She noticed one of the scientists behind him using water to undo the carbonation of one of the dead test subjects and quickly figured out how to escape.
Well now, I should get going now Josephine. I've got a lot of preparation to do. I'll have you moved to my office shortly. Good day.
Time passes and the entire time That Thomas was preparing his body to receive the trick cells he would mock Josephine every time he came into his office.
From painting on her to urinating on her, day after day the torment continued until finally it was time for Robert to receive the trick cells.
Whether or not it was successful Josephine will never know for she never saw Thomas again. The years would pass and the entire time Josephine would pray to God for his freedom.
The building she was in went through renovation after renovation. From world war 1 all the way to the modern age.
Josephine had long since lost track of how much time had passed since she was frozen and Soon stopped caring.
Until one day a huge nuclear explosion rocked the area blowing everything to pieces. Miraculously, Josephine had survived, but was buried deep in the rubble. The rain could not free her for she was buried too deep.
What the heck was that? That was the biggest explosion I ever saw in my life. How did I even survive that? Didn't know carbonate was this strong.
Please God, get me out of here.
More years pass, Josephine had not heard another human voice for a long time and now everything was black for no light had reached her. Lesser men would go mad but not Josephine Jones. Her faith in God kept him going.
Everyday she would pray for God to save her. That day would be soon.
