朝の別れ Parting at Morning
初出では Morning.と題し、前篇と組み合わされていた。
岬の周りに突然に、押し寄せたは海、
そして太陽が眺めやったは山の縁……
その真っ直ぐさは、彼がためには金の道、
そして私にとっては、人の世に在る意味。
ROUND the cape of a sudden came the sea,
And the sun looked over the mountain’s rim—
And straight was a path of gold for him,
And the need of a world of men for me.
world of men：man は「男」であり「人」、故に men は「男性」であり「人類」であるから、この言い回しは「人類世界」に当たる。のであるが。
この詩は前篇を語る男性に対して、女性が返しているのは明らかで、「人類」と称しつつ「男性」と呼びかけている。という所までは訳し切れず、今後の課題。
