大地の不滅 Earth's Immortalities
名声 Fame.
見給え、最高に見事な墓が間に合うように、
我等が詩人のお望みは、全盛期の更新を。
See, as the prettiest graves will do in time,
Our poet's wants the freshness of its prime;
芝生は、寺男の馬食い散らかすに対して、
奮闘していた、縁取る柳の杖を以て。
Spite of the sexton's browsing horse, the sods
Have struggled through its binding osier rods;
墓の墓碑と沈みつつある脚元石はすっかり傾き、
そのうちにと約束されたレンガ仕事を待ち望む。
Headstone and half-sunk footstone lean awry,
Wanting the brick-work promised by-and-by;
びっしりと灰色の苔が、板に板を重ねた様で、
ふっくらさせたは、かっちり彫られた名前と日付！
How the minute grey lichens, plate o'er plate,
Have softened down the crisp-cut name and date!
愛着 Love.
さて、1年が終わったなら
（いつまでも愛して！）
また3月から始められん、
4月にはよく努めて。
So, the year's done with
(Love me for ever!)
All March begun with,
April's endeavour;
5月……花輪に縛られる
6月是非とも断ち切って。
今、周りに雪が降る、
6月の熱を癒していて—
（いつまでも愛して！）
May-wreaths that bound me
June needs must sever;
Now snows fall round me,
Quenching June's fever—
(Love me for ever!)
osier rods:墓を囲む柳の柵。草が入って来るのを防ぐ。
Headstone footstone:欧米の墓は専ら土葬だったため、亡骸の頭上と脚元に墓石を据えて位置表示する。日本の墓とは構造が違い、訳語がない。
