21. The Banquet
A few days later, Emma was invited by Kai to a banquet at Regalia College.
She had heard that the Regalia College banquet was one of the most prestigious events at Arcana Academy of Magic. Moreover, Regalia College had many mages from noble families, making it a place that felt somewhat daunting for Emma.
"I'm really looking forward to the Regalia College banquet!" Finn said cheerfully. His eyes were sparkling, which eased Emma's nervousness slightly.
"Yeah, but I'm a little nervous..." Emma replied, a bit sheepishly. Sophia took Emma's hand and squeezed it firmly.
"There's no need to be nervous, Emma. Kai invited you, so just hold your head high," Sophia said encouragingly.
On the day of the banquet, Emma headed to Regalia College with Sophia and Finn. When the large doors opened, a magnificent dining hall spread out before them. The ceiling was high, dazzling chandeliers cast a soft light, and tables were neatly arranged with colorful dishes. Long tables were lined up in rows, where mages could be seen seated leisurely.
"Wow... Amazing..." Finn breathed, his eyes wide with amazement.
The atmosphere, completely different from their usual meals, made Emma feel even more nervous. She felt slightly overwhelmed by the luxurious robes and adornments worn by the Regalia College students, and their refined manners.
Kai was already seated, and he smiled and waved when he spotted them. "Emma, Sophia, Finn, welcome," he said, guiding them to the seats next to him.
Emma felt a little relieved and sat down next to Kai with Sophia and Finn. In front of them were colorful appetizers, and a large meat dish sat in the center. The silverware shone beautifully, and wine glasses sparkled, reflecting the light. The surrounding students enjoyed their meal quietly, mindful of their conversation topics and manners, exuding an air of dignity.
Following the traditions of the magical world, the meal progressed. After the appetizers, soup was served, followed by the main course. Between courses, Emma chatted with the mages around her and occasionally spoke lightly with Kai beside her.
Sophia seemed to be enjoying her conversation with the Regalia College students, while Finn, though overwhelmed by the atmosphere, excitedly enjoyed the food.
"Emma, are you nervous?" Kai asked gently.
"Yeah, a little... But I'm okay because you're here, Kai," Emma replied with a small smile.
"I'm glad to hear that," Kai said warmly.
As the banquet proceeded, a senior professor, an elder figure in Regalia College, suddenly stood up and spoke between courses. "Everyone, let us raise a toast to celebrate this evening's banquet."
Glasses were raised in unison, the champagne sparkling as it caught the light.
Following the call of "Cheers!", everyone raised their glasses in a toast. Then, Kai smiled at Emma and whispered softly,
"Your presence here is special, for everyone."
Emma was slightly surprised by his words, but noticing Kai's warm gaze, her heart fluttered. His words felt incredibly encouraging, more than anything else.
