Teacher’s ability to relate with students is more important than excellent knowledge.
The teacher needs an excellent amount of knowledge in order to teach students. However, I believe that being able to sympathize with the student is more important than the amount of knowledge the teacher consists of. The relation with the student will allow the teacher to stand to form the student’s point of view and will enable the teacher to conduct a more comprehensive class. Furthermore, being able to relate to the student will enable the teacher to take care of each individual student. Also, knowledge is an important element of being a teacher, but the extent of knowledge that the student need is limited depending on the educational level.
First, sympathizing with the student enable teachers to conduct a more comprehensive class. Teachers, who have the perspective of the student, will be able to conduct an understandable class. This is because, teachers were also once a student, and they understand that just informing a vast amount of information is not going to be a meaningful class. In order to make the student learn, the teacher understands that the class needs to be intriguing to all the students. For example, imagine two classes A and B. Class A is a class that simply informs a vast amount of information. In this class, the student is likely to get bored and overwhelmed by the amount of information. On the other hand, class B is a class where the teacher provides information and interactive activities for the students to learn proactively. In class B it is likely that the student will be concentrating on the activity and learn the subject without getting bored. Thus, class B could be only conducted, if the teacher has or understands the student’s perspective through sympathizing with him or her.
Next, relating to the student will enable the teacher to understand each individual’s learning progress. All student does not think the same way, and they all have a different speed of learning. Even though the student is taking the same class, this does not mean that all the students having the same level of understanding of the class. In order to seek each student’s understanding level, communication is essential. Via communication, the teacher will be able to understand what and why the student is having a hard time processing the content of the class to understand. Providing a test could be a substitute for this matter. However, I believe that communication face to face is the most precise way to examine the problem each student is having.
Lastly, the amount of knowledge the teacher needs depends on the educational level of the school. Depending on primary school, middle, high school, and university, the amount of knowledge the teacher needs to teach is different. For example, a primary school teacher does not require to have a university-level knowledge of science in order to teach an elementary student. This is because there is a limit to what the elementary student can understand. Furthermore, students do not need a vast amount of knowledge on each subject. I believe that school is not merely a place to inform mass information. Rather than informing mass educational facts, I believe that a school is a place for the students to experience and be exposed to each subject, and see which subject they are most intrigued. This is because not all subject is relevant in our life. Artists do not need knowledge of chemistry, and a retail clerk does not need knowledge or art.
In conclusion, I believe that relationships between students and the teacher are more important, rather than a massive amount of knowledge. The ability to sympathize with the will enable the teacher to conduct class form a student’s perspective, the relation between the students will enable the teachers to understand each student's level of understanding in class, and knowledge is no the essential factor of being a teacher in school. Thus, the relation should be prioritized over knowledge, when evaluating teachers. Considering the free educational material flowing on the internet and more knowledge are easily accessible via the internet, I truly believe that the quality of teachers is not based on the knowledge they have. In fact, the most valued aspect of the teacher should be the ability to inform students without letting them get bored in class.
