Peace in Japan
If the red bear danced, the ground would sway,
The axis of the Earth would tilt that day.
White bear, in panic, stomped the floor,
But the glaciers cracked and he fell with a roar,
Plunging straight into the sea’s wide bay.
The waters rose and coconut palms took flight,
The southern isles erupted in wild delight.
Voices clamored from every side,
And flying fish leapt with the tide,
Vaulting Earth’s far backside.
Sea gods and earth gods, in great dismay,
Raged and roared but could not sway
The chaos that had come to stay.
Yet unaware of all the fuss and din,
The moon bear calmly eats within,
Today, as always, peace settles in.
