Invitation from a Client
“Good morniiiing!”
Kiko peered over the top of her monitor as Yuki approached.
“Good morning! How was the romantic weekend?”
“It was very romantic, how was your movie weekend?”
“Good actually, we stayed in for it though.”
“We’ll have to do a group movie date, also Rika and I want to do a double date at the beach. Would you and Hidetake go?”
Kiko nodded and giggled.
“Yes it was pretty nice.”
“So after Friday...”
“Oh that, I may have had a bit too much to drink.”
“I think it was also partially my fault bringing up the swimsuit thing.”
“No, it’s fine. I think maybe I was a little jealous of you also.”
“Me?”
Kiko smiled embarrassedly.
“Yeah... You two got along so well. And, he thinks you’re cute.”
Yuki blushed at the last part of what she said and the fact it was one of the first things he said to her.
“I- I’m sure he’s just being nice.”
Kiko smiled.
“Well, he is right. I’m sure Rika agrees also.”
Yuki averted her eyes bashfully.
“She’s mentioned it before.”
Kiko giggled.
“I think the world can agree on your cuteness.”
Yuki waved at the air.
“You’re too kind, besides you’re the cutest one I know.”
“Me?”
“Yeah! The way you dress, laugh, and even your hobbies. It’s easy to see how Hidetake and you are together.”
Kiko blushed now, remembering her and Hidetake’s conversation the night before.
“I- I never thought about it really.”
“Maybe that’s a good thing?”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s natural enough and you’re both comfortable that you don’t think about it.”
Kiko thought about what she said for a moment.
“I think you have something there.”
“I- It’s kind of how I feel with Rika, it’s...”
She remembered their evening under the fireworks.
“Love?”
Yuki realized she had trailed off and giggled.
“Y- Yeah, love. Though...”
Kiko raised an eyebrow.
“It is nice to hear you’re cute from someone you love.”
Kiko smiled.
“Yes it is.”
“Hello you two.”
Rika was standing at the entrance to their office section.
“How was the meeting?”
“The one that was scheduled for first thing on Monday?”
“Yes that one.”
She deflated and leaned against Yuki’s desk.
“Awful, and there was hardly a point to it either.”
“Really?”
“It could’ve been sent as an email basically. Oh! That reminds me.”
Rika unlocked her smartphone and opened the mail app, she briefly waited for it to refresh.
“Yes!”
Yuki tilted her head curiously.
“What is it?”
“A client told me she’d send us tickets to one of her band’s shows in the area.”
“Awesome!”
“Totally, we’ll make a date of it.”
Kiko raised a finger, indicating she had a question.
“All four of us?”
Rika nodded.
“Yeah, It’s this weekend.”
Kiko put a thumbs up.
“I’ll text Hidetake.”
Kiko took out her own phone, which had a pink bunny-shaped case.
“Who is your client?”
Rika smiled.
“I actually want to keep it a secret, but you know who they are, or at least their music.”
Yuki began cataloguing all the contemporary bands she listened to.
“I really only listen to Anisong.”
Rika poked her nose jokingly.
“You’ll just have to wait.”
“Yoo hoo, lovebirds. Hidetake says he’s in for this weekend.”
“First actual double date!”
Kiko clapped her hands together.
“Cuteness levels will be a maximum!”
Rika crossed her arms and looked at her inquisitively.
“Why are you so into our cuteness.”
“Well, I’m basically vicariously in a relationship with both of you, so it personally effects me.”
“That makes sense.”
Yuki nodded in agreement.
“This is going to be fun.”
Kiko tapped on her chin.
“You know, despite the fact that I work in music. I can’t remember the last time I actually went to a concert.”
“Really?”
“It’s not really in my realm of things I do, you know? I did go to Idol shows when I was younger though. That was so long ago...”
Yuki raised her hand timidly.
“I’ve never actually been to one.”
“Really?”
Rika and Kiko both seemed genuinely shocked.
“Is it really that weird?”
Rika rubbed her neck.
“I mean it’s just... Never? You seem like the type though.”
Yuki blushed.
“Really? I’m not cool or anything.”
Kiko and Rika looked at one another, silently communicating their mutual agreement. Rika then looked back to Yuki.
“You totally are, like a somewhat reformed punk.”
Kiko nodded.
“Like a high school baddie kind of vibe, but then you grew up a little.”
Yuki laughed.
“Not really.”
In a way though it was slightly true.
“I just never found a reason to go to a concert. Except for Anisong, I don’t really listen to music.”
“You’re just like Hidetake then.”
Yuki smiled.
“I think so.”
“He doesn’t go much out of his way for non-otaku related entertainment.”
Yuki nodded in understanding.
“There’s just so much, it’s hard to go off and pay attention to other stuff.”
Rika smiled.
“Well, you’ll definitely have a good time this weekend. Who knows? You may become a concert junkie.”
Yuki briefly pictured herself wearing a leather jacket and frequenting loud rock concerts.
“Maybe...”
Rika smiled and shrugged.
“You never know.”
She stood back up.
“Work time!”
Yuki spun around and woke up her computer.
“Yes ma’am!”
Rika rolled her eyes at Yuki’s jab.
“Dummy.”
