The Team
Yuki, out of shock, could only blink her eyes. She hadn’t realized she’d been talking to her boss till then.
“Uh, Hello ma’am.” She said as she awkwardly bowed.
“Relax Yuki, I’m just the team leader. No need to call me ma’am.”
“Yes ma’am. I mean. Ms. Rika.”
Rika laughed a bit, “Well let’s get your orientation underway. You have your badge already?” Yuki opened her bag and clipped the small plastic card to her suit coat’s lapel.
Rika gave a thumbs up, “Don’t lose it, getting a new one can be a pain.”
Yuki nodded, “Will do.”
“Alright. I’ll show you to your desk and introduce the team. Let’s go!”
Yuki jumped up and saluted, “Yes Senpai!”
Rika laughed again, “Good to see the newbie is ready to go. We need that enthusiasm” In a side comment, “We’re struggling as it is.”
Yuki picked up her things and followed Rika to their teams corner of the office. At the same time was curious as to her remark.
As they walked Yuki asked, “What do you mean ‘we’re struggling’?”
Rika smirked, “Just watch.”
Yuki quietly followed her as they approached the small group of desks. As they neared Yuki saw one other person in the area.
“That is Akiko Maeno.”
Akiko turned and excitedly waved, “Hello newbie! Call me Kiko.”
Yuki smiled and bowed, “Nice to meet you Kiko. I’m Futaba Yuki.”
“Uwu, She’s so cute!” Kiko exclaimed.
Yuki blushed. “Thank you.”
“With your professional suit. Adorable!”
“Alright Kiko, don’t freak her out on the first day.”
Kiko pouted.
Rika pointed to the desk space to her right, “That’ll be yours. And I’m over there.” She pointed to the desk by the window.
“Still so unfair.” Kiko mumbled as she turned towards her computer.
Yuki sat her things next to her desk and sat in her chair. She looked around the office from her new view. Noticing a discrepancy.
“Um, Rika? Why do all the other teams have more people?”
“That’s what I was talking about earlier. We’re understaffed.”
Kiko began giggling from her desk, “Understatement.”
“Usually we should have six or so people, but it’s been us three till now.”
Yuki tilted her head, “Three?”
“Oh! I forgot about Takehide. He’s a telecommuter.”
Kiko spun back around, “He’s basically never here.”
“Exactly. You might see him in a video call.”
“If he answers.” Kiko laughed.
“Don’t worry about him, it’ll pretty much just be us. And your here now, so hopefully things won’t be as hectic.”
“Oh my god, less overtime would be nice.” Kiko mentioned.
“Does that happen often?” Yuki became worried at the prospect of frequent over-time.
Rika itched the side of her face coyly. “Yeahhhhh, it’s not as bad as it sounds though.”
Yuki put a serious face on. “Well no matter what, I’ll give it my all!” She said with clenched fists.
Rika crossed her arms and shook her head in approval. “We’re glad to have you on board.”
Kiko spun around again, “Uwu, still so cute!” Riko looked irritated again.
Kiko added, “We’re glad you’re here Yuki!”
Yuki smiled.
I think this is going to work out.
