First Day Back
“Good morniiiiing!”
Kiko was fast at work reading that day’s top entertainment articles.
“Yuki, you’re back!”
Yuki nodded triumphantly.
“I’m ready to get to work! Sorry about leaving you with all the work.”
Kiko waved away her apology, she rolled up to her and held her hands.
“Please. How are you?”
Yuki blushed.
“Did she...”
“Please don’t hate her for it. I was sincerely worried about you. I’m always here for you.”
Yuki hugged Kiko.
“Thank you, I’m okay.”
Rika walked towards the conference room behind Kiko. Yuki smiled as they silently said hi.
“At least, now I am.”
Yuki looked a Kiko.
“Did you hear?”
Kiko nodded happily.
“I did! I’m so excited for you two. Are you nervous?”
Yuki blushed a little.
“For the most part I’m excited... You read things though, you know?”
Kiko crossed her arms.
“I read, a lot, of things. That’s all just intrigue writing or stories of people who shouldn’t have moved in together in the first place.”
Yuki itched her temple and nodded nervously.
“I know you’ve been married for years, but how was it moving in with Hidetake?”
Kiko put a finger on her chin remembering.
“My my, that takes me back. He’s an incorrigible otaku, hardly a step above a NEET. So he had all his merchandise and stuff, and exactly cleanly...”
Yuki looked even more nervous than before.
“Ahhhhh.”
Kiko laughed.
“Over time though he changed his habits, we figured out each other’s patterns and stuff. He’s actually quite the homemaker now.”
Yuki began to get less nervous.
Kiko nodded having chosen the correct phrasing.
“It’s nice. It’s no longer just a house, but a home. You get to go home, eat, and be with your significant other.”
Yuki smiled as she imagined the past couple days they had had together.
“That sounds really, nice. Oh, one thing. In your opinion does there need to be a homemaker. Will it be hard otherwise?”
Kiko hesitated to answer.
“Have you and Rika talked about one of you staying home?”
Yuki shook her head.
“No, and I know we need to. I don’t expect her to either, considering her position.”
Kiko tapped her own cheek.
“It depends of lifestyles and such, so it can be nice if you want to. But no, there doesn’t need to be.”
Yuki nodded and looked out the window, considering how she would broach the subject properly.
“I’ll talk to her at lunch.”
Kiko didn’t answer, so Yuki looked at her.
A large smile sat on her face. She rested her chin on two fists.
Yuki tilted her head and smiled.
“What is it?”
“You two are so unbearably cute.”
Yuki blushed, and waved her hand in front of her face.
“I’m serious! An actual romance author couldn’t have thought of such a cute story. And...”
Yuki looked at her questioningly.
“I don’t really know if it bothers you at all. But. Regarding the pace of your relationship...”
Yuki nodded, urging her to finish the thought.
“Don’t worry too much about it. Go with whatever you feel.”
Kiko looked away slightly.
Yuki giggled.
“Thank you. It. It helps to hear it from you.”
Kiko nodded towards her computer.
“Back to the grindstone.”
Yuki nodded.
“Kiko?”
Kilo paused as she turned towards her computer. Yuki threw her arms around her.
“She told me. You’ll do an amazing job.”
Kiko held on to Yuki’s arms, and nodded.
“We may face some obstacles, but it doesn’t matter as long as you’re there.”
Kiko’s lip trembled as she smiled.
“I wish more than anything you didn’t even have to consider these things.”
Yuki slowly rocked her back and forth.
“I know.”
Yuki could hear her voice getting strained.
“I can’t forgive it.”
Yuki hushed her quietly.
“You’re wearing mascara.”
Kiko began trembling.
“You’ve cried more than enough for us.”
She saw blackened tears begin staining her cheeks.
“I’m sorry...”
She sniffled.
“You two are family. It just, hurts.”
Yuki gently dabbed away her tears.
“I know.”
She let Kiko cry for a bit, she wasn’t wrong at all. It did hurt, people were able to turn their love into tragedy.
“Kiko?”
Kiko sniffled a bit.
“Yes?”
“Take the fire from that hurt and turn it into love. With that, let’s make this the greatest love story that has ever been.”
Kiko nodded, she stopped her crying.
“You’re a strong person Yuki, don’t ever doubt it.”
Yuki blushed.
Kiko looked up at her and smiled.
“You two will have the wedding of your dreams, I promise.”
Yuki smiled widely.
“Thank you.”
Kiko began giggling.
“I look like a raccoon right now, don’t I.”
Yuki tried not to laugh but quickly failed.
“You really do.”
“Help me make my escape to the restroom?”
Yuki nodded.
“Let’s go get coffee after.”
“You read my mind. Let’s not tell Rika.”
Yuki put two thumbs up.
